I recently sold several items on ebay that have been sitting around in the store I own, and in the last 2 weeks I have had 2 A-HOLES rip me off by filing a Dispute Claim for items they claim to have not recieved. Since the buyers did not pay for TRACKING of the item, and on the claim to resolve it you have to provide a tracking #, for the first claim I called and spoke with some BEYOTCH at Paypal. She tells me what to put on the claim since I do not have or provide tracking so that the claim can be resolved. I told her that all i have is the postal receipt to prove the item was shipped. A few days later I get an email form Paypal that says the claim was resolved in favor of the "buyer" and get screwed out of my money. Last week it happens again because the buyer, who is in Canada, has not recieved his items. This time I do a "Live Chat" with ebay and fill them in with the issues. All they tell me is that I should provide tracking. I let them know that if the buyer does not request it, I don't offer it. So I went ahead and filed a claim to hopefully overturn them both. In the claim I noted that I have the "Postal Receipt" to prove the items were in fact shipped. So today as I am checking my email, I get another email from Paypal that the issue was resolved in favor of the buyer again. So now I have lost out on about $60 bucks. I guess I will have to call that BEYOTCH back at Paypal and see why I have lost both times to people who "Claim" to not have recieved their items. I didn't even get a call to get a copy of the receipts to prove that I did ship the F***ING stuff.

ANYWAYS, Has anyone had any problems like this?

All I can say now after using Paypal since 1999 (which didn't matter to the beyotch on the phone), I'M DONE! NO MORE PAYPAL!

I only ship FEDEX insured. No problems. If you used the post office, Look at the government, The model of competence, I would rather trust pony express, carrier pigon, or bottle with cork in the ocean.

it is YOUR problem that you ship something with out a tracking number, i sell alot on ebay, and i know how often that usps lost stuff, you ALWAYS need to ship with tracking number when you sell on ebay, no matter is customer pay for it or not. and ship by USPS Parcel Post when you ship something international so you can track it. customer can do the same thing as long as they are using a credit card to pay, no matter if they use paypal or not.

I sold a 348 documents wallet last year to somebody in spain via ebay/paypal, inspite of having a recipt for postage and an international tracking number (which confirmed delivery) I still got screwed by paypal for the money when he claimed not to have received the goods!

Who did you use for shipping? Postal Receipt = USPS ?

I still like shipping FedEX even thought the LOST 2 of my packages last Christmas season to the tune of $150. They have good customer service and process claims pretty quick.

BTW, still waiting for Google to formally announce their payment system to compete against Paypal.

Here's the thing : Paypal is generally wonderful for the buyers (customers) and occasionally horrible for the sellers. They *almost always* give the benefit of the doubt to the buyer, diddling the seller in the process.

My friend was asking me about making online payments the other day, and I hesitated. I ended up recommending PP, because, truth be told, it's actually a very safe option for buyers - reliable accounts of PP cheating buyers are exceedingly uncommon (discounting the phishing attempts that are not directly PP's fault). And it's more secure than giving out your CC no to every Tom, Dick and Harry merchant on the web (there have been too many merchant side compromises of CC no databases for a savvy buyer to feel secure). But I did tell him that PP has a nasty habit of cheating sellers of their money and left it up to him whether he still wanted to use them to buy things.

It's a bit of a vicious cycle : Buyers will not stop using PP because it's not dangerous (well, compared to the alternatives) for them to do so. Given that, sellers will not stop offering PP, even if they're cheated. The ones who do will be pushed aside by competing vendors who continue to offer PP. So PP keeps winning at the expense of the sellers.

Here's a slightly more "exuberant" account about the dangers of PP to sellers : www.paypalsucks.com

Todd - When you decided to accept payments by Paypal - didn't you read the information on what you needed to do to protect yourself against these types of disputes? One of the main things is that you must provide tracking to verify receipt.

You having a reciept that you sent the item doesn't mean the other person actually received it - you need proof. You didn't do what you were supposed to do to protect yourself, and unfortunately, others are taking advantage of your screw up. This isn't paypal's problem.

Several years back I sold a laptop computer to a guy in South Africa on ebay. I used paypal for payment. I was suspicious having never used paypal before. So, before I shipped the item, I required that not only must the money be in my paypal account but it must have cleared out of that account into my checking account.

Once the full payment was in my checking account, I shipped the item FedEx. I did have it tracked, and it was confirmed as delivered to the buyes provided address.

About 3 weeks later I get notified that the buyer has disputed ever having received the item and paypal has ruled in his favor and my paypal account shows a negative balance for the purchase amount.

I contacted paypal, provided them with the shipping confirmation and waited while they "investigated". Result: 2 weeks later I get a letter in the mail from paypal demanding that I refund the money.

So, I cancelled my paypal account and never heard anything about it. BUT... if I had left the money in my paypal account, they would have siezed it and I would have been screwed.

I will NEVER EVER use paypal for anything again.

One more reason why I don't accept PayPay at Ricambi. It is a complete pain in the ass, highly suspect, and quite expensive.

I lost nearly $3000 last year buying a video camera through Paypal. I won on eBay, paid through Paypal, it was a fraud, they returned $175.

Then I got the police on it, but the local DA refused to grant a subpoena twice, because it was for an online fraud of less than $75,000.

PayPal paid a vendor twice for a single purchase I had made; my account even showed two payments within minutes apart to the same vendor in the same amountand listed the same item number! Of course, the vendor was no help at all. I went round and round with them for months; they refused to credit the money to my account. I'd never use PayPal again. NEVER!

Here is where I don't get why I did get screwed, I specifically state on the auction and in my Shipping Information "that I am not responsible once the item hits the post office" and they still could give a rats a$$ about that. Isn't that technically a contract that the buyer has agreed to?

    What is with South Africa?

I sold a Schumacher 7X W.C. 1:18 last year when i didn't even offer my item to "Other Countries", but before I could cancel them out, They paid me WITH PAYPAL so I figured the money was good and it cleared. I sent the item on the 1st of September, a few weeks go by, I get a claim dispute from Paypal (the 1st time in 6 years), I provide the Customs declaration tracking number and stop the dispute. Another weeks later the guy starts to harrass me about not recieving it, So I email them the Customs Tracking Number. Then I decided to check the Post Office online tracking, It still showed the post office where I shipped it from as the only place to have recieved it. This was one month to the day. The person still keeps harrassing me about the item, and several times I tell them what my auction states about shipping, but when someone pays out $150 U.S. I had to be a little more understanding about the whole thing. I decide to check the Post Office online tracking again, over a month later it showed that the item finally left New Jersey. All the while I have been going back & forth via email with this guy just trying to be sure he did in fact recieve the item. Then I get a dispute via eBay with this guy once again trying to get his $150 back. I decided to get on ebay and file a fraud claim. Problem solved! I NEVER HEARD FROM THE GUY AGAIN.

Unf@#&ing believable! I just got another complaint from an impatient dumba$$. This time I am going to lose out on over $50 because this P.O.S. has no patience. I shipped this guy in England 3 Rodder's Journal's 5 weeks ago and now he has filed a claim saying he has not recieved them. I am emailing in response to PAYPAL to resolve this (WITH PHOTOS OF RECEIPT). I already know I am going to lose. I shelled out $27.50 to ship these 3 Magazines, and all I was paid for the Shipping and Handling was $18.00. THIS IS F@&#ED UP!

You make it sound like taking CC's is no safer than taking PayPal. That is simply not true. I used to take both. I've had issues with both. You will come out far far ahead with a CC company than with PayPal. PP is an unregulated bank and they can and will do anything to you. CC's are much more strict in how they handle complaints and there is a more transparent dispute resolution process.

If a person lies and says they didnt get something and they really did, they have little worry that PayPal will come after them. I have had people lie and say they never got a package I shipped, and in the end they were proven wrong and they've lost their CC account over it.

Bottom line is that its very risky taking PayPal - much more so than any CC. There are two kinds of people who use PayPal, those who have had issues and will never use them again, and those who haven't had any issues (yet). There are virtually no people out there who had issues but PayPal "took good care of them".

$50k/month, if its true, is a ticking timebomb waiting to go off.
