I had the pleasure of driving a Scud and a 458 on the track in Vegas a few days ago. This is a second time I got to drive the Scud, once on the street and once on the track. I have to say the Scud is impressive on the streets but even more so at the track. :) If it feels a little "raw" on the street, it makes complete sense at the track.

I am not a huge fan of F1 gearbox even though I did own an F430 with it but I was only lukewarm about it... Having driven the 458 with the dual clutch, I disliked the F1 even more by comparison. The Scud's F1 on the other hand did not bother me, it was fast enough and less jerky than my F430 when it came to shifting under full throttle.

The 458 felt faster under acceleration but I felt less confident driving it around the track (I have very limited experience on the track), with the Scud on the other hand, I felt more confident and in tune with the car. The Scud's handling was more forgiving and the car overall felt more linear. The brakes, the steering, the gas pedal response, all felt natural. The 458 by comparison felt edgier and more nervous, sharper and less forgiving. I felt the weight transfer more in the 458 and the computer reminded me a few times that I have much more to learn about driving on the track, the Scud just pressed on and felt like I could have squeezed quite a bit more out of it before getting in trouble.

Sure enough, after reviewing the in car videos and comparing lap times, I was consistently faster around the track with the Scud... About 3-5 seconds faster but it is not a long track at all... :(

Don't read too much into this, I am not a race car driver, far from it. I am sure in more experienced hands, the 458 would be faster around the track. I just wanted to share the thought that if I was fortunate enough to actually track either car on a regular basis, I would probably go with the Scud just because I feel more in tune with it. :)

Anyone else drive the Scud and 458 on the same track and agree or disagree with my post?
