Dear UK F-chat crew, Just wanted to drop a quick note to introduce myself and pass on a link which some of you will cringe over, others will laugh at, and the rest of you will think 'whew... atleast it wasn't mine!' My name is Michael Johnson I am a racing driver and active member of the Texas Ferrarichat chapter. I recently relocated to the United Kingdom to pursue motorsport at the highest level, Formula 1. Since my move I have been keeping an online diary of everything i've been getting into for my friends back home and interested motorsport fans. This past weekend I visited Silverstone for the FIA GT championship round. Ferrari was excellently represented in what seemed like every racing category during the weekend. My latest post was quite a bit off the beaten path and probably no one has ever written such a perspective. To check it out please visit: http://mjdrive.blogspot.com I look forward to meeting some of you in the future and I hope you enjoy the online diary. Cheers Michael
Hi Micheal, interesting read, and the very best of British luck. Do you have a drive at the moment are you thinking of trying for a GT seat? Peter
Good Morning Peter, Thank you for the note and I very much appreciate the kind wishes! Having literally just gotten off the prevebial boat, I have not had time to organize my own ride yet. I have however managed to get a position with the world famous Palmer Sport racing school at Bedford Autodrome which keeps me in the seat. Personally I am pursing single seater racing, however I have had a lot of seat time in Sedan's and won a few races in the few events I was entered in. When I was living in Texas I instructed at a driving school called Texas Driving Experience where we had a fleet of Corvette Z06's. Because of that I have a zillion non-competition but at speed miles. Thanks again for the note. Cheers Michael
Dear Douglas and James, Thank you very much for the notes. Being in the UK has been absolutely fantastic. While I was racing in Texas and American I always felt like the championships I was winning didn't really mean for much because they were so far away from where it really counts. Now I feel like I am excactly where I need to be, making some fantastic contacts, and continuing to pursue something for which I am very passionate about. Hopefully soon I will be able to find a way into a seat and start winning championships on the 'right' side of the pond. I just had a chance to put up another post which I think those of you who have wondered what it takes to get to F1 will find very interesting. http://mjdrive.blogspot.com Hope you enjoy Cheers Michael
