Tell that to Binotto who said that in interview to RTL back in August. https://www.rtl.de/cms/formel-1-mattia-binotto-mick-schumacher-2023-ein-ferrari-kandidat-koennte-sein-4820712.html
Damon Hill was not quite the racer as Graham. Jacques Villeneuve was not quite the racer as Gilles. Nelson Piquet Jr was not quite the racer as Nelson Snr. Nico Rosberg was not quite the racer as Keke. Mick Schumacher is not......... Only exception: Max vs Jos.
FFS, 2nd time already. Was supposed to go to Maranello probably to do some sim work. Leclerc tests positive for COVID-19 for second time in 2021 https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/leclerc-tests-positive-for-covid-19-for-second-time-in-2021/6886034/
Let's hope Santa brings a great red sleigh for the Scuderia in 2022. Charles and Carlos continue to improve as drivers, and it's just about time for Ferrari to be back on top!
This has really been on my mind. I really think he could return to oversee the Scuderia’s LeMans return. If they had Todt as sporting director that may work. He could be 75% LeMans and 25% F1.
Group B. Todt also directed Peugeot with two LeMans victories, one in 1982, and then a 1st, 2nd, 3rd finish in 1993.
Right, he was still leading Peugeot when they won in ‘92 and ‘93 before moving to Ferrari. BTW, the Gr. B Peugeot was their 205 rally car. The Le Mans car was a Gr. C, the 905.
Hi Charles LOL https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/binotto-will-discuss-f1-future-with-sainz-over-winter-after-great-year/6892921/ Binotto will discuss F1 future with Sainz over winter after "great year" Mattia Binotto plans to talk with Carlos Sainz Jr over the winter about his Ferrari future after a “great” first Formula 1 season with the team in 2021. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Luke Smith Dec 18, 2021, 9:15 AM Sainz replaced Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari on a two-year deal for this season, and enjoyed his strongest F1 campaign to date, scoring four podiums en route to fifth place in the drivers’ championship. Sainz managed to outscore Charles Leclerc in their first year as team-mates, helping Ferrari to secure third place in the constructors’ championship ahead of his former team McLaren. The Spaniard capped off his season with a third place finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He said after the race that he “couldn’t ask for more” to round out his first year with Ferrari. Ferrari team principal Binotto was jokingly asked after the race if now was the best time to renew Sainz’s contract, despite it having a year still to run. But he said they would chat about future plans over the winter when reviewing his season. “I think Carlos did a great year,” Binotto said. Autosport 2021 Top 50: #7 Carlos Sainz Jr “When we signed a year ago, we said that winter time, so this is winter time, [is] the right moment to sit down and have a review of the season. That is something we will certainly do during the winter. “There will be certainly a review altogether, and of the season itself, and we’ll start discussing what can be our future.”
Our driver line up is solid. Not only do we have two capable and experienced drivers but we have two guys with different but complimentary skills. Yes, Charles is probably the one with the rawest speed, but Carlos knows that points are how you win prizes. You know, like Niki did. #RTR So, in a scenario where the 2022 cars from the big teams are all about equal, I think Charles may have the ultimate skills to compete with the best and win us the WDC. The combo of Charles and Carlos in that scenario would give us a huge shot at the WCC. More likely, the cars will not be so equal, so for us 2022 is going to depend on what is created at the factory, then the drivers, then the pit wall and the race strategists. The optimisation of this combination is what Mercedes have had for years, it is what we had in the MS era. As an aside, thank you to the creator of this thread. I have opinions about Lewis versus Max or Horner versus Wolf. However, what I really care about, and I want to talk about, and what I pray for, is Scuderia Ferrari. Why ? Well, I have theories, but that could be a thread in itself
I don’t know what to make of Charles now to be honest. After his first year I was really impressed with his composure (on and off track) and obvious raw speed. Some silly mistakes due to over-driving the car which I assumed he would filter out but he kept on making those errors too many times, also in 2020. No doubt he’s “better than good” but after this year I was expecting more performance from him, but he seemed a bit lost? It’s hard to say exactly why or what happened (kind of invisible on TV Air Time) but I guess he did have some bad luck… but… you make your own luck to some degree. Fact that Carlos got comfortable with the car quickly and seemed more solid by end of the year surprised me. Maybe Charles is feeling the pressure of a fast team-mate and over-driving again, or something about the car dynamics didn’t suit him. I think the “adrenalin factor” in a rookies first year counts for a lot in terms of performance (trying to impress, driving for your “dream team” and all… reference Hamilton 2007!) then the pressure takes over. He doesn’t seem bothered by it in interviews and I like his attitude and analysis of situations but he really needs to find the spark again in 22! Think we do have a great pair of drivers if the car can take it to the front. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Thanks! We NEED a competitive Scuderia. I absolutely don’t want to wait years and years before seeing a WDC and WCC for Ferrari. I’m getting old.
I was pondering this chart a bit, comparing drivers within their respective teams primarily. Yes, it does feel like Charles faded a bit during the second half of the season whereas Carlos' performance improved. No doubt some of that due to simply becoming more familiar with the car and team. I also think Charles has more raw talent. Perhaps he is getting into that competitive/frustrated space where he is pushing harder to overcome some of the car/team deficiencies (part of what I think began to happen with Seb in 2018+). Also not to be discounted is running a mid-pack car simply puts you more at risk for bad luck to take its toll. Next year will be very telling. As much as I'd like to think we can continue to improve beyond the third best car in the WCC standings (ie challenge for 2nd) the more realistic goal is just to get some separation from McLaren, etc and close the gap on the Merc/RB teams. Forza Ferrari !! https://www.racefans.net/2021-f1-season/2021-f1-statistics/2021-f1-qualifying-data/
Rumors from Italy say the new Ferrari ICE is much more powerful than the 2021 one. They just need to work on its perfect reliability. They just have a few weeks to do it.. I hope that the FIA will not immediately equip it with sensors..
I will be going to the Barcelona test in February if Covid allows this .. The most important question: Are we going to go back to a bright red livery instead of this dreadful dull orange red?
Everyone talks about Jean Todt to direct Ferrari I think that the director of Ferrari should be Berni Ecclestone or Flavio Briatore, two guys who can neutralize all the dirty maneuvers of Toto Wolff
Ecclestone is 91 years old, the man enjoys his pension. But Ferrari definitely needs someone strong. I think Briatore will never return to F1, but why not Luca di Montezemolo? https://scuderiafans.com/luca-di-montezemolo-i-know-ferraris-problems-i-can-fix-them/
let me know if you are. I might join you for a day! Can't be bothered to go much longer than that though haha.
