'Napolis - *raises can of Coke* to you and yours... Scuderia.
Agree. In fact, I'll see your "mad" and raise you an "insanely mad." I am surprised that some coach builder has not put Michael on permanent retainer.
My guess (and it's the medicine talking) is that it would be a one-off recreation of a P3 tube chassis modified to fit a modern Enzo or FXX engine and drivetrain, rebodied to look similar to P4/5 and given the chassis code 0847 Far-fetched? http://www.superformance.com/gt40.aspx
...Jim, what kind of road does one go on in order to find sponsorship? I'm sure you could call the corporate offices of banks to let them know of an opportunity to put their name on something like this. Not to mention Ferrari dealerships. _J
....and, thus far, no calls back eh? You can't just run it independently, without a major sponsor? I'm saying, you'r Firm's name and a dealership as well as FerrariChat... No more than that. Could it be done that easily, or are you searching for a big name? _J
By my WAG, this is going to take a big pile of cash. Any sponsor will need to be someone with some degree of mass market appeal to those who will watch the race, follow the race team, etc. to be able to see any real value. From the sponsors point of view, you need put aside how mind-blowingly cool this is and look at is based on ROI from advertising. A Ferrari dealership will see little gain from sponsorship as they are geographically limited in their customer base. I can't speak for Glickenhaus & Co. but not sure if I can see the value to them as a company. Unless they have a "for poops and grins" fund. That said, good luck in getting sponsorship Jim! It's great to see someone able to pursue their passions the way you do.
Had very good discussions with Paolo who will be running this effort. We're figuring out a lot of things and should have a second set of designs next week. I remain happy and hopeful.
I think it would be perfect if you brought Ferrari back to Le Mans. How about approaching them for a sponsorship? Time to make history.
The only way a major mfr. would back it is if they "played to win" ... such an exercise would be about 30-40 million when started from scratch...
The problem is that there are so many rules it's very tough. Take wanting to use a V 12 for example. As overall HP is limited by air restrictors we may have to think about using a Ferrari V8 which is lighter makes the same HP and is more fuel efficient which in an endurance race makes a big difference. It's funny a while ago a Ferrari mechanic Wayne Sparling who was there on the day told me that in the 60ies at endurance races such as the Ring with very long laps the advantage of fewer pits stops with better mileage caused them to use 3 liter motors in 4 liter cars.
Ring up Santander....they seem to have plenty of money available for racing these days. This would be a minor adventure for them. Ferrari 458 would be a good candidate with an Aluminum Chassis. Could be designed to fit V12 or V8 Longitudinal depending on the circuit.
Er... no, have a read through. It'll be mid-engined and look like a P4/5... otherwise there's no point in doing this at all. All the best, Andrew.
It seems as though it's my turn to go: "whoops". I'll just sit quietly over here in the corner... All the best, Andrew.
