I'm looking at a 2008 Scud and the carfax says the front brake pads were changed at 7500 miles. The report says it was done at the dealers expense. They also replaced most of the carbon fiber in the engine compartment.

I was aware that the carbon fiber was a problem but hadn't seen anything regarding the brake pads. Can anyone offer any insight here?

I'm looking to trade an 07 430 coupe for an 08 Scud.

Aww Texasz, is that rust I see on your brake discs? :D Shame on you! :)

The early changing of the pads might be considered to be an indicator of hard use on track. That said, I don't see the dealership changing them under warranty if that was the (only) cause. As far as I know, the more important thing to establish is the condition of the carbon discs. I understand that the on-board computers log the heat cycles and ultimately tell you when the discs need replacement. As such you ought to be able to get a report on their condition and take it from there.

I've also read that the discs should be replaced every other pad change. I'm not sure if the first set of pads changed at only 7500 miles will count as a "full cycle" but if so, it may mean that it's already half way into a replacement cycle and price should be adjusted accordingly.

Great car though and I certainly wouldn't walk away if I found it had seen track - they're well built and love a good thrashing!

Best of luck with your purchase (and sale).

A Scuderia at Sebring will need new brake pads in just one track day and 4 track sessions of 20 minutes.

I have gone through many sets of brake pads.

The ECU readout from the CCB rotors is what really tells if the car has been tracked. At 7,500 miles, light track use should show 20% usage on the CCB rotors, heavy track use would have them replaced 3 times already, no track should show a value in the 10% range.

I need to get that rust off of the rotors.........

Thanks for all the great information. I'll see if I can get an ECU reading on the brakes.
Just seems unlikely that they would be covered by Ferrari if they were wore out due to track time.

Not SW's but I have seen his and it's similiar.

Is it possible that it was an FDE car? But FDE cars had front pads AND rotors replaced. FDE cars seem to have around 7000 - 8000mi on the clock.

BUT since it has a Carfax record, it probably isn't.

    Regards,

You are looking at the one at Exotic Mid West. Talked to them today. I understand it is sold, or maybe pending to you. Drivers seat has a yellow stain on the headrest and steering wheel rpm display is cracked and need to be fixed. Does have a clear bra and otherwise looks clean. Good luck. I do not believe this car was tracked?

It is pending to me and I appreciate the info. I had them send me several more pictures of the headrest and they assured me that was not a yellow spot but maybe the flash caused this. Have you seen the car in person? Are you talking about the led part on the steering wheel being cracked, because I wasn't aware of that? Thanks for the input.

Looks like a stain to me, showed it to my Fiance' and she thinks someone had a bit too much hair gel on more than a few days. Just request they clean it.

Yes if you look at the pictures closely you will see the cracked LED light for the steering wheel, they have also verified this on the phone with me. Would need to make this getting fixed a condition of the sale, that could possible cut your hand when it is driven. Hopefully this can be fixed without an entirely new wheel.

The plastic cover for the shifting LEDs can be changed, but I think Ferrari charges something like $350...

Thanks, they have agreed to replace the lens and led's.

I remember that scene with the hair gel well. Actually, thought the same thing. I had them send me 5 more pictures and I can't see it, so either it was a flash or it's been cleaned. Dealership has been great to work with thus far.

How do you break that LED plate on the wheel? Death grip on the steering wheel or something?

Aside from that, I LOVE the full alacantera interior.

    Here is the photo:

You can see it is to the right of the horse. Looks like someone rested their head in that spot consistently. Should be able to be cleaned up. I looked at this car, and you just beat me by a day. This car was at another dealer recently for 189k, dropped to 183k and then moved to Danny's place. One of the nicest interior's of any Scud I have seen. Good luck and congrats.

Apparently it's pretty common for these to break. Oh well just glad it's being fixed.

Can anyone tell where the door speakers are located in a scud? I don't see them in the kick plates. Are the tweeters still in the triangles on the door?

I was wondering the same thing. Seems that the only front speakers are under the far left and right air vents. Still have the sub and passive radiator, but that looks like it's about it.

The other speakers are in the exhaust muffler. :)

That's all the speakers....they did not design speakers in the door panels like the 16Ms. Two tiny speakers below the dash and center subwoofer module (Which has only one really crappy speaker, not two...lol) are all you get. If you turn up the bass and mid-range really loud on the subwoofer module, you can at least hear the GPS direction, but the radio without a LED screen is kind of difficult to use as GPS. The radio is really not needed in the scud because the engine sound is so good, but for long distance or just everyday driving, you'll need to upgrade for decent sound and it will never be great because of the lack of insulation and engine/road noise.

I just upgraded my Scud: swapped out the tweeters, added a subwoofer behind the pseudo-glove compartment area, and filled in the subwoofer module with two nice 5 1/4 speake copnnected to a headunit with LED screen and amp in the front trunk. Oh, and an back up camera which is crucial for parking!

I am still waiting for my carbon fiber engine parts to come back from Italy so hopefully I can put up some pictures of the setup next week! Can't wait to drive my car, it's been a month!
