I've thought of adding shields to the flanks of my car (its Grigio Ingrid) but question the impact on long term value as well as aesthetics. Obviously, there are no stamped depressions in the fender, so the shields would stick up from the surface even more than factory models. Also, since this is a GT, rather than a sports car, the shileds may tart up, rather than enhance the clean lines of the design. Has any one put shields on a 456? Glad or regret it?

Purists would say that if it didn't come with them, you shouldn't add them. Others would say it's okay if the model has a racing history. Personally, I like factory shields depressed in the fenders only on street cars. But remember, the shields on the F-1 cars are just stickers, so if you want to be truly authentic, go with stickers :).

If I were getting a 456, and it is something I've considered, I would be turned off from a car that had shields. It seems like it is one of those things that would be hard to undo if you didn't like it.

I went through your same thought process and in the end I went for it.
In actual fact, the Yo Magic shields are so thin they do not protrude more than the factory recessed shields.
They are attached with double sticky tape, thin and of a good quality, so if one day one decides to do away with them, I suppose it should not be too hard to do it.

i Just purchased a 456 1.5 months ago. I too tossed and turned about adding the fender shields. In the meantime, I compromised. On ebay, for about $40, you can buy magentice shields which can be installed just under the rear view mirrors. They look alright and don't come off on the freeway at high speeds. When you are tired of them, take them off with ease.

    Good Luck

Factory shields are not stickers, and are plenty authentic to me if the car came with them (it comes from Ferrari - how more authentic do you want to get?). The racing cars have stickers because it is easier, cheaper and aerodynamically advantageous, but on a GT car the shields look much better. At Goodwood, I parked my 550 with shields next to a 550 with stickers (see photo), and the stickers looked really bad (i.e. cheap and ugly) in comparison IMHO, although it is less obvious on the photo. I love my shields, really adds a bit of colour to the vast nose of the 550. But I would not add them to a car that didn't have them originally.

As for the 456, I think it can live without the shields.

IMO, shields are dorky on a touring car like a 456 (or 550, for that matter). I wouldn't buy a car with shields (unless they could be easily removed), but that's just my opinion.

I hadn't considered using magnetic shields and took a moment for me to figure out why you put them on the door under the mirrors; since the fenders are aluminum, I knew they wouldn't work in the usual spot.

I have a 2001 456MGT that came with the factory shields and I think it looks great against the Rosso Fiorano body color. Nothing shouts Ferrari as loud as the shields and I am glad my car has them. Some people say it is a touring car but so what it is still a Ferrari. I don't want to hide the fact that it is a Ferrari- I want everyone to know that it is a Ferrari.

A hair dryer and patience does the trick with no damage to paint.
Get it nice and warm and work one corner with your finger.
Once you get one corner up, direct the air under the sticker and slowly continue to pull.

Opinions differ. My shields are stick on, and in the wrong location on the fender to boot, but I like it. If and when I sell, I can easily remove them and put the original wheels back on. In the meantime, I enjoy the differences and get lots of compiments.

Don't like them, it is too strong of a contrast with the subtleness of the body design and just doesn't look flattering.

With yellow calipers, the shields are a different shade of yellow and my eye keeps darting between them, over accenting the difference. It is distracting at best.

I know some people enjoy putting stickers on there car and they should do exactly how they please - it is their car.

actually: Yoshi is a sponsor in Fchat, well sort of...he'll give you a discount if you mention his code from this site for a good discount.

BUT, in talking with 'yoshi' he recommends, now since he is using stonger 3M tape, to use a fishline to cut the back of the stickiness and didn't mention the hair-dryer as a means. I somehow wonder if it still wouldn't work.

His shields are great, but like many others with the exception of oss117, I believe the 456 looks better without them. I understand oss117's comments, and went into the same thought process. I have the same color and I have seen the two, same colors side by side, and one had the shields and mine not: verdict: The shields, for some reason made the car look shorter!!!!, sort of cuts up the line and makes it out of symetry> don't do it.

If you must try it, buy the cheap stickie types and put one on and look at it...I even tried to develop a magnetic yoshi shield but to no avail. We have a super-magnet factory here in Sonoma, and we worked at it, but the carbon fiber hood is too thick in that area.

Anyone who locates a 456 6-speed ('97-) that is absolutely perfect except for having shields, please let me know.:D

Somehow I think that once you get into the market you will find that you can't just order one up and reject the ones with the shields unless you are prepared to wait for a l-o-o-o-n-g time.

My bad. Obviously, the hood--where the shields would be placed--is carbon fiber. The fenders below are irrelevant.

    very nice

could you take a close up of the shields

PS: I've found it necessary to reshape, bend, a bit the Yoshis to fit properly...how much extra work did you have to fit on the 456?
