In looking for a used 360, I've discovered some have the shields and some do not. I happen to like them as they are a material and weighty piece of insignia that really looks good. So here's my question: for the cars that came with them, are they recessed into the fender? If this is the case, then buying them in the after market you have to decide whether to buy stickers or the real thing (or imitation metal shields for $250) that require drilling and bolting them to the fender. I've seen the stickers and they look like crap. For those of you who have added them (metal shields), what are your thoughts??

Thanks in advance for your insight~

The cars that came with them from the factory are recessed into the fender.

Ferrari does has a OEM sticker made from this plastic you can place on the fenders. It does not look good as the factory or below.

Aftermarket there are imitation metal shields. The one's I have seen do not need to be drilled.

There is another thread on here about this and mentioned there is a company that can recess them in. You might want to try searching for that post.

The real ones from the factory are mounted into a special depression in the fender that they sit down into. So you are talking about two different fenders on the cars - one made for shields, one without. It's not really something you can add later, without getting a whole new fender designed to have them mounted on there.

My personal view is that putting fake shields on a car that didn't come with them from the factory and/or doesn't have the correct fender to accept them falls into the lame category.

The shields look good, but the cars look fine without them as well. It just depends on how big a deal it is to you.

brokenarrow, many F-Chatters will consider what I am about to say as being a little too picky, so please take it as only one opinion:

There's an original intention behind putting shields on any Ferrari, namely that the car is currently racing, or has in the past raced, for the Scuderia Ferrari racing team. Those shields have always been (and still are) just simple stickers.

The fact that Ferrari SpA now offers enamel versions of the shields as an option on road cars sold to individuals may well have diluted the original meaning of the shields, making them mere "nice-to-have ornaments" that "look good". And this is probably irreversible as more and more people insist on having them on regular road cars.

But in the interest of preserving Ferrari's racing heritage, IMHO, we should always prefer not to have them on our cars, content only to see them on the F1 cars (and supercars such as the F40) as originally intended by Enzo Ferrari himself.

My 360 doesn't have them, and it's a truer Ferrari road car for it.

    (All IMHO)

Great pictures and opinions. I just didn't know how big a deal it was to those in the "know". I appreciate it :)

Keep in mind that there are some who prefer the cars without shields. If you drill holes or otherwise add a shield that cannot be removed without marring the car's finish, then you've eliminated those people from your potential market should you ever decide to sell the car.
