I like my Scuderia so much that this post almost feels like cheating...

I am seeking feedback, impressions, and opinions from any owners that made the jump from the Scuderia to a 458.

For some reason, the 458 has really been growing on me. Also, having a Ford GT in the garage lets me scratch the raw experience itch and the idea of an Italian leather interior is also starting to grow on me. Even crazier, the idea of a Spider has also entered the equation (I generally feel that I am too ugly to subject the rest of the world to with a Spider but they look amazing).

I wish I had more specific questions but really more interested to hear the owner's "story" associated with the change, regrets?, etc.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I drove 10K miles on a Scud for 1 yr, sold it about a year ago and recently got into a 458 Italia with the CF sport seats. While the Scud provided quite the raw and visceral experience, I felt like it was always on the edge in terms of drivability, feel, and especially the sensation from superfast shifts of the single-clutch sequential trans. It wasn't a car that I could "relax" while driving and for some time that was a big part of the allure of the car, which I didn't mind but after a while I guess you can say it "wore" me out. I can say without a doubt the rawness of the car was something with which I've never experienced with any other car (a good thing) but it just became a bit much.

Fast forward to now, I've only had the 458 for a couple weeks and the dual clutch clicks off crisp and confidence-inspiring upshifts and downshifts and though not as sensational as shifts in the Scud, it's more than adequate and does its job very well. Overall, the 458 feels at least as powerful as the Scud, more comfortable, and a better daily-driver. I don't regret one bit not going back to the Scud as it was an option I left on the table.

Unless you absolutely crave the feeling of rawness and edginess from the Scud in my opinion you'll find that the 458 is a better package in many ways. Plus, as mentioned you already have a Ford GT to scratch that itch. I say make the jump. I'm also of the opinion that the Italia has better lines than the Spider, so why even pay that premium unless you've already established yourself to be a convertible guy.

I've had some seat time in 16Ms, and IMHO, the Scud --> 458 jump is one of those truly significant upgrades: more comfort, more ability, more better, as they say.

I found the scuderia extremely visceral; exquisite sound, crisp aggressive shifts, and I loved every minute of driving it.
My spouse despised all of the items that made it a wonderful drivers car.
My Speciale however; provides a much more acceptable driving experience for the spouse, while maintaining an immensely enjoyable driving experience (sport mode while she's in the car and race or CST when she's not).
I suggest having a look at the Speciale, if available.
PS: Scud is still on my radar for a second Fcar!!!

Just a suggestion. Why not go from the Scud to a Speciale? It's fast, nimble and drives like it's on rails. It's more a natural progression of the Scud than a 458 coupe or spider. I had a 12 Itaia and after 6 months actually test drove a few Scuds which I quickly learned more suited the "event" type driving I like in my Fcars. After going back and forth, I decided to wait for the Speciale and I was duly rewarded with that visceral, "event" type driving feel and emotion.

I had a Scud. Loved it for the quick A to A type drives. Leave your house..go on a drive...return home. The perfect car to clear the mental cob webs. Such an incredible machine. Downside, because its A to A you won't want to take it on a long drive..and chances are your wife will hate it (mine did)

The 458 is both a weekend fun car like the Scuderia and a true long distance A to B car. Best of both worlds.

The 458 also has the advantage of being a stunning car. Probably one of the best Ferrari designs since the 250 series cars from the 60s.

430s will most likely not be remembered as being beautiful. Especially when compared to its younger sister the 458.

The perfect garage is having both.

I am in search of a red/ tan 458 Spider and if the stars align may sell some of my German iron and buy another Scud.

I sold my Scud and bought a Speciale recently - no regrets - the Speciale is just so much better and quicker and more comfortable. The Scud though will always hold a special place as it's just so much more visceral, gearshifts are almost brutish compared to the Speciale.
