Has anyone ever experienced a power loss after start up for no reason? Attended a club event yesterday……car ran beautifully. On the way home we stopped about 3 minutes from my house for a quick green beer….. upon leaving it felt like I was running on 4 cylinders. thoughts?
Wait for the 'OK' message to disappear before starting it. The same thing happens if the battery voltage is low.
If it does that, knock it off and then turn key on and wait until you get the ok message. If on starting you get an e diff or gearbox warning ( and others) you may have a battery on the way out. The volts are dropping too low due to starter motor load and this triggers silly alarms or it starts on 1 bank. On e bay you can buy a voltmeter that plugs into the power socket between the seats, useful to have in the glove compartment
I had exactly the same happen to my Scud about six months ago. I thought it was badly broken. Shut it off, restarted it and it never happened again. They are just grumpy starters some times.
I always give mine an extra half second or so after the "ok" symbol has illuminated, and it has never happened to me (at least not after I started doing this LOL! Gave me quite the scare the one time I jumped the gun. Yet another way these cars are not like "normal" cars (i.e., two banks run by two ecu's, running separate intake tracts, throttle bodies, maf sensors, etc...).
the scud and others of that age require an EXCELLENT battery charge and following the startup procedure mentioned need an OK ... then it would start and be fine...I always keep mine on the battery tender when not driving
