Scuds

Short answer: because there's always something else to buy. I've had my scud for 6 months now. While I love it, I'm almost certain I will get the itch to get something else within the next few years. Used Speciale maybe?

 

A Scud is extreme. Primarily used in everyday life a Scud can annoy.
There are people buying a Scud and recognize then that carpets are missing.

 

I have owned a 430 6 speed gated shifter and now own a Scud... I can definitely tell you I miss creature comforts at times along with leather and carpets and sound deadening... But the Scud gives you a unique feeling you can't get from a regular Ferrari... Simply put it feels more Ferrari I don't know why people sell them... When I want a comfortable car I drive my Benz.

you think 2-3 years is fast? I'd bet the average scud ownership period is less than that...

No maint issues, solid cars in that regard by virtually all accounts.

Now holding value retail-to-retail more or less (rare thing).

Extreme car, many get tired of it and want less raw.

"Newest" and "latest" disease runs rampant with many of the folks that are positioned to get scud allocation on first release and also those with $$$ to buy them used.

Still - I think the ownership period for CS and Scud will trend towards the mean of 360/430 ownership periods over time...less churn of CS's for sure over past two years and I expect scuds to see them also experience this. (I don't think it will reach the mean, for the reasons above).

 

I have had my 09 for 3 years now. Only exotic in my entire ownership history that I have kept for more than a year.

My recent history:
Gallardo - 8 months
R8 - 10 months
CS - 6 months
MP4 - 5 months
Scud - 38 months

There's was/is just no experience like it on the market in its price range. I just broke 10k miles last week...bought it with less than 1k miles on the odometer....car hasn't exploded or melted as most claim it would.

Small pesky issues like evap leak and fogging headlights, but everything else that really matters has been bulletproof.

 

Love my scud although I only have it for one year. I will have to wait for the 2 year itch and see if I have to scratch.

I have had mine for three years, at this time still plan to keep it for the long term. No issues, runs great with almost 10,000 miles on it now. Although I did get the three year itch and bought a 2010 porsche gt3, which is a three pedal car. Love the scud.

Agree with this. Just got mine 2 months ago. Been amazing but will not keep more than 3 years most likely. It's me not the car.

 

My favourite colour combination for Scud. Really love Avio Metallic with brake calipers painted in yellow!

+1. The Scud turnover phenomenon is a statistical anomaly driven by circumstances. It will moderate over time.

1) It came out in the last 2 years of the 430 model run, quickly followed by the 458. As mentioned above, the people that get to buy new Ferraris retain that privilege by continuing to get new Ferraris.

2) The Scud was more expensive than the 430, so many Ferrari buyers assumed it was a "better" 430, and bought it without understanding it. The Scud is not a better 430, it is a different car. Once they realized this, they were quick to move on to the 458 or even a 430 Spider.

It is definitely not a maintenance or reliability issue driving the turnover. The Scud is a highly refined 360/430 evolution, matured over 10 years.

I knew the Scud was a purpose-built track car when I got it. That's why I got it. But I'm the first/loudest to say that it is not a better street car than a 430. And most Ferrari buyers drive on the street (if they drive them at all, but that's another thread...).

 

I had a F430 and I traded in for a scud. I loved the leather interior of my F430. Because of that, it took me a while to find a scuderia with a leather interior. At the end I found one the way I liked it. Rosso corsa with black leather interior. I have had my scud for over 3 years now and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. I would add a new toy on my stable but never sell the scuderia. To me it's a special car. Not only because the involvement in development from one of the best Formula 1 drivers ever, but because the thrills that gives me every time I drive it. It's a unique car with perfect performance, looks and reliability.
