Hey Guy's and Gal's couldn't think of anyone better to ask so i'm asking you guy's, do any of you or have any of you ever owned a seadoo speedster boat? i'm thinking about buying one and although i have plenty of sea-doo experience i've never actually driven or been in one of the boats. And the deal I'm being offered is about %50 of retail prices with trailers, life jackets and all safety equipment etc included.
what is your overall take on them?
How are they for tricks?(donuts, wave jumping etc)
    Fuel consumption?
Overall maintenence costs involved over the summer?

Any and all help and info you guy's could give me is greatly appreciated and I thank you all in advance!

    Thanks
    James Simpson

dude, save your money. Ive owned a few jet skis/ seadoo. Ive never had any problems with losing footing in doing maneuvers on these things [ ever ] .
ps. if your not in competition your gonna look pretty silly wearing boots while riding.
Things to have while owning jetskis --
    1. good life jacket
    2.goggles [ if you like ]
    3.tanning lotion or sunscreen
    4. rubbers -- they ARE chick magnets !!

gas consumption ---- depends on how hard you ride. maintanance -- make sure you flush the engine with fresh water after every use if you are riding in salt water.
I also spray down entire engine with silicone to prevent corrosion, change spark plugs once a year, and lube up any fittins, keep waxed
    good luck and have fun.........
my overall take ---- love em !!!!!!

thanks so much! i've always had a seadoo and love them but my buddy has a couple and if i want to use them i always can and this boat will most likely spend all it's time at his cottage anyways, it's a hell of a deal $4000 with trailer and life jackets etc., thanks for the maintenence tips as well..the way i look at it is $4000 for a few summers of fun is well worth it to me.

Also it's a little bit older(1996) but owned by a lawyer i met and his kids are don't use it anymore, its already been put in the water and will be a freshwater boat all the time, theres a guy that services everyones seadoos on the lake so i'm sure he's quite capable of taking care of this.

    thanks again for your commments!

I don't know Johnny, if you're jetskiing in one of the rivers down here you at least need water shoes because of all the damn oyster beds.....

I used to be a huge jetskiier before I got into cars. More than once I helped people who beached their machines on oyster beds with no water shoes on.....stranded like turtles on their backs.

I must have 10 pair of extra shoes for people who ride mine and fit them before they leave. You never know what will happen. I like Yahama better than Sea Doo having owned both.

I almost bought one and may still but my g/f is trying to sway me towards a pair of PWCs instead. $4K sounds like a good price for that year and model plus with the extras. I've rented jet boats in the past and they're a lot more fun than jetskis.

One thing to think about is, if it's a 1996 model, it's probably a 2 stroke and will require you to add oil externally every time you put fuel in. That can be a pain to do it every time you take it out, especially if it's kept at a cabin.

thanks for all the great input guy's it is indeed a boat and not a pwc, my search actually started off for a pwc or two but saw this guy selling his boat he wants rid of it and i want something for the summer, I never thought about the 2 stroke part but the lake is so small theres no marina anyways so if i have to buy a litre or two of oil while filling up the jerry cans it won't really bother me.

Typically they are oil-injected. Pour some oil in a tank and check it every other time you go out. A gallon of the 2-stroke oil will last a long time.

One thing to be aware of is if the water you'll be using a jet-propelled craft is weedy. If yes, I hear that the propulsion system can get jammed with the weeds fairly easily, where you'll have to remove the weeds by hand. I considered a jet boat when I was shopping for a boat, but when I heard this, I opted for an inboard MasterCraft ski boat, with a Corvette LT-1 motor. I love it, and have no regrets whatsoever.

James, for $4000 a Sea-Doo Challenger is worth it. I've been on them a few times, and they're great if you want to hit the water for a few hours.

They are very low maintenance, and quite cheap to operate compared to a boat.

If you are looking at a 18-22' Rinker, or a similar 'pleasure boat' (small, cheap) they will run you over $20,000.
