Anybody ever used it? All the guys on the fullsizechevy.com forum swear by it. It's supposed to clean the carbon out of the top end if you pour some seafoam into a vacuum line while the motor is running, then shut it off for a few minutesm and start it back up. They say that you know it works cause your vehicle belches smoke for several minutes. I just gave it a shot, what the heck, for 5 bucks I'll try anything. It was kind of fun, my truck belched a ton of grey smoke for a few minutes, and soon was back to normal. Whether it did anything or not, I have no idea.

So is it hype, or what? Was all the smoke just the Seafoam burning?

carbon build up is going to be on the head of the piston and the valves, but the power robbing build up is on the back side of the valves and the head of the piston. i'm not sure how running the "additive" in the vaccum line gets at those area's effectivly. the marginal cleaners require a hot soak, but are decent if you have little build up.

how does one get build up? by driving like a granny and short runs, get the engine warm run it through the rpm band and don't be afriad to tickkle the rpm limit. then most build up gets burned off and if you drive like that to start with, then it shouldn't be a problem. this ofcourse assumes your engine is in good running order. now a nice little coolant leak will steam clean your engine real purty, but i would not suggest that.

oops sorry farmerdave, when i've cleaned carbon off the internals its alot of work and requires power tools. that'll give you an idea of how baked on the stuff is, think of a real dirty oven. i had a 740GLE turbo motor that was so bad i had to source a new OS head and an all new valves.

I have used Seafoam before and it does help it is not a answer to all problems but I did notice a change in performance (timy but there was a change) They say you can also put it straight into the oil as a cleaner also.

lol, yeah, trouble is, it only steam cleans whatever cylinder it's leaking into. :) It really does do a good job cleaning that one cylinder though. :D
