The front cover and oil pan present a special challenge in reassembly.

I am curious if there are any "special" tricks to getting it right?

After placing the front cover, making sure to do a great job on tensioner fitting etc.. etc.. I am curious as to when full torquing of this cover should take place?

I am particularly referring to the fact that the oil pan will be sealing against the transmission, block and front cover during its final assembly. Should the front cover be fastened down before hand or should the final torque take place at the same time as the pan?

My guess is that the cover should be fully torqued down when its first installed, and that the dowels on the front cover ensure correct placement. But I thought I would ask around first!

Here it is before it came off ...

I'm trying to remember if I waited to torque everything at the end... I don't recall doing so, but I DO recall getting a razor blade and trimming the green gasket seal for the front cover flush with the bottom flange to ensure the oil pan fit flush.

give the front cover a feel and ensure it's flush with the bottom of the block. if it's not, loosen it, and then re-torque after the oil pan is in place.
