I can't pull the seat belt out of the driver's side reel. It will come out about an inch and then stop. And the cover over the mechanism is secured with screws that require a proprietary 3-point screwdriver to remove. My car is a US spec 1988.5 TR. Has anyone else experienced this and come up with a fix?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Never had a problem with either of my lap belt reels (wish I could say the same for the rest of the system!) nor do I recall any threads discussing. Those belts are purely mechanical so you are on the right track to remove the side cover and see whats stopping the belt--there's usually springs, a bar and cog mechanism to control the extension/retraction so hopefully it's something pretty simple. I have seen those "Tri-wing" screwdrivers online but not in stores so you may need to search a little.
