458 Seatbelt Replacement

Before going through that pain, have you tried cleaning it? It's rare for a tensioner to degrade that much in ~10 years especially on a car that tends to be lightly used. What is very common is the belt and the guides get dust, hair, and oils from use that add friction. You can use normal dish soap (sparingly since it's not convenient to rinse out) on the webbing and run it through a guide a few times. Easiest if you can unbolt the end and unspool the whole thing into a bucket.

 

Yes, if you search on Youtube there's a DIY but it's fairly straightforward to clean them. On a related note, when I took delivery of my '13 Spider earlier this year, I noticed the passenger belt was frayed where it retracts into the firewall. I presume this was from wind buffeting (previous owner lived in Florida so mostly open top driving). Ferrari informed me they would not replace it, which is disappointing because Porsche will replace a worn/frayed seat belt no matter how old the car is.

Yo Kent welcome to the 458/488/F8 board. Saw the 430 up for sale. I changed out the belts on wife’s Cali T. Black to red. Used Safety Restore out of MA. Highly recommended them. Fast turn around and good price. Going to do to same in 488 now that weather has turned

My Italia had a frayed passenger belt. It was something like $1000 to replace. They had to ground ship the belt from NJ since it has explosives in it. PITA but now I don't have a frayed passenger belt. And my lady is almost always driving with me so hopefully it won't happen again.

 

If you are not the DIY'er type of person, then changing the seat belts is not for you. I changed the seat belts on my Spider and will admit, it was a pain due to the interior panel configuration.

I think the cost to replace both (from the dealer) was north of $3k, although that was a few years ago.
