Just got my 1987 328 GTS.

I can't seem to get a satisfactory seating position. I'm 6' tall and fit fine, but no matter how much I adjust the seat (there is only front/back and seat back inclination-right?), the steering wheel still blocks the sweet part of the speedo and tach.

If only I could adjust the steering wheel position, at least up and down, but there is no adjustment for this.

Has anyone experienced this problem and if so how did you deal with it.

    Thank you.

It CAN be adjusted, but you'll need a kit to do it. Not built in. I just live with mine - I see the speed
and tach just fine, but can't see any of the top lights without looking down under the wheel. But
it CAN be adjusted, and I'm sure others who are more experienced than I am will tell you how. My
seller told me there's definitely a way to do it - think about it - just a matter of dropping or raising
the shaft a bit. Unbolt, shim, re-bolt. But beyond that... other F-chatters surely will know

Zombee is correct there is a slight adjustment that can be made up or down. Try searching for it I know it's been discussed before

Actually, all you need is two wrenches. Look under the dash at the steering column and you will find an enclosure for the column that is held on with a bolt and nut at the top just ahead of a knuckle joint. This piece pivots on the bolt. Use one wrench to hold the bolt and the other to loosen the nut. Move the steering wheel and re-tighten.

I've been looking for a digital speed readout, something which could be seen in peripheral vision. Or even a heads up display projected onto the windscreen. I do have a spare Zemco driving computer which has this function but haven't found a good place to mount it. Reading the speedometer is bad enough during the day but dang near imposeeebla at night.

Just had a thought...hows about a series of leds like the F1 cars seem to have perhaps first led comes on at 35 green...next at 55 green...next at 65 green...next in yellow at 75...? Again, just where to mount it.

    I like to be able to confirm my speed with the radar cop, and it's also good to know what the exact RPM's were when the engine explodes. (-;

I only managed to get the right position after fitting the Hill Engineering steering wheel spacer
    http://www.hillengineering.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=15&products_id=238

It moves the steering wheel out and therefore it ends up a little bit higher too. I can't see the fan lights but I can see the speedo and rev counter. You need to stretch your fingers more in order to reach the turn signal stalk but you get used to it.

I second the recommendation for the Hill engineering spacer. The simplest and single most effective adjustment you can do. I'm 6'2" and it made a huge difference. Doesn't look like it will help much looking at the part but it works.

    Good luck!

I have a spacer in mine as well though it's not from Hill.
