Of course I do remember which race it was: what good is a quote or an example without the source? Canadian Grand Prix, Mosport, 1976; four laps before the finish.
Carlos Pace was really livid after the finish line.

The journalist says that he believes & has "concrete" evidences that Helmut Marko got the task from Mateschitz to bring Seb back to Red Bull. It's an opinion article & it even says that both sides deny it atm.

In order for Seb to get that Red Bull seat, Albon needs to underperform against Max. And that Seb has a great relationship with the whole Red Bull team, including Mateschitz is also nothing new.

Red Bull are exploring the possibility to bring Sebastian Vettel ‘home’. Should Albon’s performances relative to Verstappen not improve, he’ll return to AlphaTauri for 2021 (Kvyat out) with Vettel taking his place. This is Mateschitz’s decision.

I don't buy it Joe. The car is 90% of the equation and 100% of Vettel's success at RBR. He is not needed at RBR, he adds nothing.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/150446/vettel-held-renault-talks-would-say-yes-to-red-bull

Sebastian Vettel has confirmed he held talks with Renault over a Formula 1 race seat for 2021, and would be open to returning to Red Bull should an offer be made.

Four-time F1 world champion Vettel is currently without a seat for the 2021 season after Ferrari decided not to make an offer to extend his contract beyond the end of the year.

It has left Vettel facing an uncertain F1 future, with another seat being confirmed on Wednesday as Renault announced the return of Fernando Alonso for the 2021 season.

But Vettel has confirmed he did hold talks with Renault over a drive, although they did not progress to a developed stage.

"Yes I did, but obviously at no point concrete enough, or fundamental talks or real talks," Vettel said.

"As you've seen as well, they've gone a different direction. It doesn't change much for me. It really depends on my decision, which I'm not pressured to take in the next couple of days. I want to take the time that I need to decide."

Asked by Autosport if he is considering a sabbatical or retirement from F1, Vettel said that "everything is an option at the moment" including to "carry on, have a break, or retire", but stressed he remains hungry to do more in the sport with a competitive team.

"It's not a secret that I am competitive," Vettel said.

Red Bull and Racing Point not considering Vettel for 2021 - https://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/29439328/red-bull-racing-point-not-considering-vettel-2021

Appears Seb will be taking a bit of time off for next year. With FA back there is really no top team for next year having a seat and maybe even 2022.

--Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has confirmed Sebastian Vettel is not being considered as Max Verstappen's teammate next year, despite the four-time world champion showing interest in a return.

Vettel will be replaced by Carlos Sainz at Ferrari next year and it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will remain on the F1 grid in 2021.

He revealed on Thursday that he has held talks with Renault, but that option closed off when the French manufacturer signed Fernando this week. Red Bull has a deal with Verstappen until the end of 2023, but has yet to confirm Alex Albon, who joined the team from Toro Rosso last year, as his teammate for 2021.

Vettel won all four of his championships with Red Bull in the early 2010s, but despite him showing interest in a return to the team, Horner confirmed he is not under serious consideration for 2021.

"Obviously the topic has been raised, we had a brilliant time with Seb, he'll forever be a part of our history, but we didn't expect him to be on the market this year, and our commitment is to our existing drivers, we think we have a great pairing in Max and Alex, and we think that has great potential for the future as well, so unfortunately it's not something that we're going to be able to accommodate," Horner told Sky Sports.

Asked directly if there was any chance of Vettel returning, he added: "That is a definite no, I'm afraid.

"Sebastian is aware of that. It's unusual for a four-time world champion to be out of a drive at this point in the year so I guess he has got a couple of choices available to him, assuming Racing Point or a year out and reevaluate the options in a year's time."

However, Racing Point has Sergio Perez under contract for next year alongside Lance Stroll, the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll.

When Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer was asked if Vettel was an option for 2021, he said. "Like I said before, it's flattering that everyone thinks a four-time world champion should come to our team, but maybe that's because the car is a bit quicker now," he said.

"You are absolutely right, we have long contracts for both of our drivers, so it would only be logical that we don't have space."

Besides that? Webber was nothing, IMO compared to Vettel. Even with a top car, he barely gave Vettel much trouble

He states he will want to achieve more in F1 and drive for a top team. Unless he is willing to compromise this, Seb has not much of an F1 future.

He’s been a dead man walking ever since he got schooled by 2 separate rookies in their season debuts.

How Ferrari discarded him and how Renault opted for Alonso (also popularly known here as Mr Toxic) without even a moment’s pause speaks volumes of the grid’s opinion of Seb.

Webber didn't have the Red Bull management behind him like Vettel had, but he still managed to embarrass the German a few times.
Vettel went in several occasions against team orders or pre-planned tactics, but kept being exonerated.
Being constantly undermined by Horner and Marko is what pushed Webber to leave, not the comparison with Vettel..
He joined Porsche where there was no politics, and enjoyed success in a team that supported him.

Yes FA was 'difficult' but rewarded the effort for the team when it counted - points/wins. Was he difficult? That is the perception but Domencali said he was not 'difficult' so who is to say for certain??

Seb probably realizes now that his last 3 years of losing/mistakes/and his own version of difficult are now in play affecting his efforts to secure a drive. Many here saw this coming as did the press.

The lack of even a deal and being released in a phone call should serve as warning to any who think his reputation is that of a 4x-WDC. Yes won titles but the great view of him is a damaged F1 winner who in actuality was not as capable as it appeared.

Fernando is a prickly character... can sometime bring negative karma... bad JUJU...

Seb got too arrogant, he threw away many possible wins through exuberant overconfidence and underlying arrogance (remember Baku), he should have kept his nose down and got it done...

Sad to see him go but he spent quite a bit of time trying at SF and no championship and just too many screw-ups in the past three years...

Finally Riccardo a funny guy with great smile and personality but he also seems to have a grey cloud over him, never quite achieving what he is theoretically capable of...

Maybe an analytical Brit, a la Lando Norris, would have been better than Sainz to pair with LeClerc... time will tell

Well said. The duo of passive-aggressive punks that is Horner and Marko, also forced Ricci out but not as 'overtly' as they did Mark.

Evidently Vettel has asked Brundle to interview him after this weekend race .

Rumours flying around that he is about to make an announcement , early retirement, after calling the Ferrari undriveable and a major bust up with the Team?

Starting to look apparent why after these engine restrictions of late last year Ferrari felt they didn’t need to pay a 4 time world champ anymore
