Sebastian Vettel (Possible Spoiler)

I think Sutil helped him this time, I don't know why Force India doesn't replace him with narain karthikeyan.

 

It seems like most of his accidents haven't been entirely his own fault. With that said I think he's still better than Coulthard at this point.

 

Years ago I had a boss who reviewed accidents by employees in company cars. When he could find no other fault on the part of the employee he would ask "What were you doing where an accident was about to happen?"

 

There was nothing he could do today. Sutil was just standing in his way, Vettel simply has bad luck. Crashes nearly every race without being responsible for it...

 

Not Vettel's fault, cut him slack.

You forgot to mention how many of those incidents were actually his fault? I am thinking none, maybe one? Including the one where he ran into the back of Webber last year after Hamilton brake checked. He drives a mid pack car, getting whacked and it not being your fault seems to happen in that position in motorsports.

And Vettel is receiving a lot of slack which at this point he deserves, as does Massa, because its called, racing. As the announcers on SpeedTV suggested yesterday, a driver that is really trying, writes off a few cars, or loses it a few times, because he pushes to the absolute limit.

Kind of like that driver named Gilles.

 

He really had nowhere to go, I blame Sutil.

 

I think being at the back of the grid, or near the back of the grid, in a slow car, raises the risk of getting taken out of the risk by someone else trying to make up grid positions.

 

Granted, none of the accidents were Vettel's fault. But why has he been there 3 times in a row? I think it's more than bad luck. Part of a drivers ability when running in the back is to avoid crashing in turn one, some are simply better than others.

Three accidents in a row tells me Vettel is not so good at avoiding accidents. He has tons of potential and will improve for sure...

I'm wondering, after reading the above replies, how many of y'all actually watched the incident. The onboard shot really showed that he could either turn left, right, or just go straight into whoever it was that ended up sideways (Sutil?). It really is just a case of being a driver in a third-tier car; you get stuck back there on the starts.

 

I watched the incident, again it was not Vettel's fault. The on board camera showed he hesitated by a fraction of a second to veer right while figuring out where was Sutil going to end up. That probably costed him the race.
When starting at the back you need to asume someone will mess up in front of you.

 

If I were Vettel, during the next race, I would just wait till all traffic goes through and cruise the first lap. This way the team or anybody cant say that I crashed the first lap again. He might be last and get lapped by Kimi in 2 laps, but at least he might finish the race without crashing in traffic.

 

That would be hard to do, because if he just sits back to cruise, someone will run up his arse when they are getting away from the line.

 

He needs to worry about his qualifying-stats against Bourdais. Rising stars can fade very quickly in F1.

 

First rule of accident avoidence is to go where the "lose" started ... as cars ALWAYS spin away from where they lost control.

But yes these things happen very quickly and I'm sitting at a desk typing ...

it wasn't Vettel's fault. all he needs is a p10-12 start, and watch him fly.

While I don't think the accident in Spain was Vettel's fault, he does need to learn how to avoid accidents.

The fact is that half the grid starts in the back and only a few drivers seem to be caught consistently each race. Lots of guys start at the back and manage to avoid first corner accidents. One in a while is understandable, but Vettel seems to find one each race. He is drivign an STR and odds are that he is going to be in the back of teh field, if he can't figure out how to get through the first lap cleanly, tehn what good is he?

Frankly, I am not sold on Vettel's talent just yet. I don't think he was all that impressive last year against Liuzzi (see Where Are They Now? file) and he is not impressing against Bourdais this season. Either Bourdais is all that (which I don't believe) or Vettel isn't (which I am rapidly concluding).

 

Both Vettel and Bourdais need to start getting past the first corner. For cripes sake you can literally wait at the back of the grid for 10 seconds and probably move up 3-4 places just on the stupidity of the first lap. Both these drivers need race time not testing, practice and qualifing time. Sorry these two are not going out for pushing hard; they are going out for being reckless, Both are backmarkers and need to show they actually have some talent which does not come from watching in the paddock. No excuses, start putting in race laps. I'm sure their sponsors are not thrilled being out on track 30 seconds a race - not great ROI.
