If your attending, stop by turn 13 (Tower Turn) and say hello. Lots of food, drink and good company to be had. Cheers! Anthony
I started a Thread in the Florida Section, it's gonna be CLOSE as I have international guests for the Rodeo, then would need to grab my babe in Baton Rouge and just "keep on driving" which I guess might be in the spirit of things!!!!!! So look for a dirty Cadillac steaming, with Texas plates.. My baby will be steaming the windows from the inside.....
Glickenhaus is back in? I ain't been keepin' up like I used to. Last I heard they were out. Edit: 'Just checked and the announcement of entries has been delayed, dang it......
Yes, Sebring virgin, but I bought the package since it includes assigned parking inside the venue. I plan on exploring all the track and meet with my Daytona 24 party mates. [Been going to Daytona for 11 yrs straight ]. Driving all the way from Brownsville TX for the race!
@BigTex !! Driving all the way from Brownsville TX for the race! Driving out on the 13. Stay 2 days in downtown Mobile, Alabama, and in Sebring on the 15th. I already found good shooting ranges in the Sebring area also. My steed will be a Nissan Rogue with the IMSA sticker and GTD-PRO badge [I got that one this year when I drove to the Rolex 24 ]
As I have Rodeo guests, I'm not sure at all I can make it... Things happen, things change!! This thread IS about the WEC 12 Hours correct? No one followed Jim G., to Facebook?? Anyway.......... Wiliam Hubbell joined the SCG sponsors, then died. See Subscribed Sections...
I will race there on Friday, (Ferrari 488 #21 GTE AM) so hopefully dont have to stop at turn 13! but I will stop by on saturday for the IMSA 12h! Always great to meet other FChat Members around the world! Cheers!
Good to see you get around insteada' just sittin'. The "boxes" are good for avoiding sun and rain, if nothin' else; 'can't see sheet up there 'cept the pits and the S/F straight.. 'Started attendin' in '75. My preference for majority watchin' was T-3 mound, but got around also. I stopped goin' about when you started (when GARRA.....errr....."IMSA"..... took over from ALMS. Same with the 24', when GARRA took over from whoever it was (USRRC? '99? '00?) 10ish years earlier. No it AIN'T.....WEC hasn't been part of the 12 since 2012. 'Have had their own 8 in conjunction with the 12 since '19.
Oh I will get there in the not too distant future. Slowly checking off all the IMSA races and Sebring is the big one I am missing.
Friday is the WEC 1000K (The euro guys), and Sat the IMSA 12 hour. Lots of world drivers and celebs. Shoot me a post here and we can swing by and pick you up in one of our golf carts if you want to see the track. we will be there from Wednesday on. Evenings in green park and mandatory 2am track walks are in order.
Like I said, 'haven't been following closely of late.....it's shortened? 'Used to be 1,000 miles or 8 hours, whichever came first. That first year, '19, it was 8 hours; 950ish miles.
Thank you Sir, I was going by the event poster in the Hubbell thread, and James Glickenhaus Facebook. WEC is what I want to see, but the Houston Rodeo is booming and it may be too late to travel once I finish there...
1,000 Miles (or 8 hours) https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/entries-announced-for-1000-miles-of-sebring-season-opener/ https://www.fiawec.com/en/race/show/4704 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I know when IMSA and WEC shared COTA, the big challenge was explaining to the ppublic...."Well, there ARE Corvettes in both series!" Ferraris as well of course.
I don't understand even the doubt. Why wouldn't there be? I'm so confused. BTW, I can't find any (admittedly 'didn't search too hard) news re; Glickenhaus being accepted for Le Mans. Last I saw was NOT because they weren't running the whole WEC season. And right off the bat, they're not running in the Thousand (at least 'don't see them on the WEC's Sebring "Participants" list.....) Edit: Sheet! I'm a dumbarse. I didn't scroll the list, I see 'em. Back to bed where I belong.....
If 1,000 miles is crazy, then what's the 12 (1,305 last year)? Insanity? I won't even ask what you think of a 24 (3,141 at Le Mans last year).....total lunacy??? ........................................ Image Unavailable, Please Login ...................................................... "Lookee here.....I say, I say.....it's called endurance racing son......" http://looneytunescaps.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-foghorn-leghorn.html
It is all insanity, driving 1000 miles at Sebring, 2 hour stints, with a tight track and hard braking while the bumps create unsettling during the braking. Yep, 1000 miles, 12 hours, lunacy. The 24 hour races (LeMans and Daytona) do not put the drivers through all of the challenges of Sebring. Daytona, wide track, 1/2 of the lap is on the oval with no side force and whole track is smooth as glass. No comparison. LeMans is a long, smooth, country track with few turns and bus stops added to make the cars at least slow down, somewhat. I like those races, but the are not 1000 miles or 12 hours at Sebring. I liken it to an Indy driver running 3 indy car races over 12 hours in Detroit at Belle Isle. Bell Isle will rattle an Indy drivers fillings out of their teeth. I love endurance racing and Sebring is just awesome. I leave Saturday morning to head to Sarasota and then Tuesday to head to Sebring. I can't wait!! (I'm excited if you can't tell!!)
I git your excitement, my first was too nearly 50 years ago. BTW, Sebring's not a "tight" circuit, you'll see if/when you get around it. When ya' gonna arrive? Edit: Duuuhhh. Disregard that question.....
