The penultimate test session begins on Wednesday and runs thru Saturday again at Jerez. The initial wx outlook is not very promising (again). Wednesday - showers; Thursday - T-Stoms; Friday - showers; Saturday - showers. Lewis is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday; Button for Friday and Saturday. I think it will be interesting to watch Virgin's pace at this test for improvement. Absentees will be usf1 and Campos. Teams should be announcing their projected line-ups soon.

General entry is 5 euro; VIP Tribunal entry is 10 euro; hours 10:00-17:00; tickets at sale windows each day.

    NEWEST UPDATE ->>>

AUTOSPORT understands that the teams looked into the possibility of relocating the test to Portimao or Barcelona, but abandoned the idea because of the logistical challenges involved.

Lotus is due to test for the first time this week, while fellow new team Virgin is eager for more dry mileage after its running was limited last week due a problem with its front wing mounting.

The test begins at Jerez on Wednesday.

Lotus reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy will be the first to drive as the 1Malaysia team makes its official testing debut at Jerez on Wednesday. Malaysian Fauzy's test will be his first official F1 session since driving with Spyker in 2007, although the 27-year-old did conduct Lotus' shakedown run at Silverstone last Tuesday.

Heikki Kovalainen on Thursday and Friday and Jarno Trulli brings the session to a close on Saturday.

Will day 3 be the first time Alonso and Schumi are on the track at the same time since 06? or did I miss them together at the first test session?

    Hi Kyle,

It should be the first time - here's a great link with the prior tests/times/etc and don't forget that autosport has live timing and live commentary during the tests.

session about over and interesting photo on autosport of Felipe's car with bags covering the rear wing and diffuser - Petrov running today so I would surmise that the funding issue of last week has some resolve?

Yes but only if you take one of the track shortcuts that Bernie personally installed.

I'm really curious about why Ferrari do this.

I was over on PF1 looking at some of the pictures, and I saw this shot, along with one where the team put some sort of cardboard-looking covering over the back of the car when they pushed it into the garage.
Presumably, they're doing this so other teams don't see what the back of their car looks like (diffuser design).
The thing is, there are plenty of on-track and pitlane shots that plainly show the back of the car. (as a matter of fact one of the pictures on pf1.com from the pitlane does just this)

Why go through the trouble of covering if it can be plainly seen in other shots?

Maybe they're running different setups during different parts of testing. However it does seem that throwing covers and sheets over the "newer" stuff would clearly affect the results of the test...

Heikki destroys the front wing of the car and session over for the remainder of the day - Lotus with hydraulic issues. According to Ferrari, wind is an issue today.

Hopefully next year they'll test at Portimao in lieu of Jerez.

LOVE how no one wants to give my boy RB any credit. On F1 official site it reads something about how slow his ".27" is compared to yesterday's times with a dry track...what the **** does that have to do with ANYTHING?

    Go RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuubbbbbbbbbbbbiiiiihhhhhhhhnoooo.

    Because 1. It's testing. 2. It's Williams.

Im happy to give him credit. He has plenty of experience and yes, is a capable driver. 3 years ago NO one here would say JB would be the champ in the near future. Anything can happen and like Mansell said, there a no best drivers, there are a group of drivers who, in the right car, can win a WDC. I consider RB in that group.

Roger that, but it has amazed me for years how little credit RB gets as a driver. I am a huge fan but not an idiot. He isn't top 5 on the grid, but he sure as hell is in the next five and working with the Williams car he should be given some credit.

This is testing, he'll get credit if he qualifies (not practice 1 or 2) well in Bahrain.
