Secret santa thread?

What do you guys think of doing a secret santa thing here on f-chat? We could limit the amount spent to $20 and let it be for folks with maybe 200+ or 500+ or whatever posts (to prevent n00bs from signing up for free stuff). We would randomly assign a giftee to the giftor and you pick a gift that matches what you think/feel about them (in good taste, of course).

Opinions? I'd be happy to manage the list if anyone is interested. We did this on another site before and it was pretty frickin fun and funny to see what people got for each other.

 

Well I agree that maybe a certain number of posts OR subscribed is a good idea - wouldn't want to exclude paying memebers of any post count.

As for security... well, I was thinking people could email me their screen name and their shipping address, so only your giftor and me would ever see it. That reduces the chances of people abusing the info. Also, you could have it sent to your work or a friends house or something? Or I guess you could always put your F-chat screen name on the address instead of your real name? I was thinking we could do a random match up of santas to receivers so everyone gives something and gets something.

Part of the fun would be doing some searches on the persons posts to see what kind of things they are into to pick a present. Then maybe after thanksgiving we can start sending the presents and keep a thread going where people can post what they got and what they think of it with pics? People would have from thanksgiving all the way to Xmas to get a gift and send it out, so those of us who are busy can get in on it too.

It sounds like people are into it - I'll be happy to organize and run it and until we officially kick it off, if someone (especially those concerned with security) have any input on what would make them feel better, then we could implement those.

When we're ready to kick it off, I will make a seperate thread with an email account I set up and I'll put the info we'll need from each person to get on the list, and come up with a short "here's how you play" thing so people who haven't done it before can get in on the fun.

It would be pretty cool if we get some non-USA F-chatters in on it too! Priority mail shipping for a 2lb package to an international destination is usually only $10 or so.

 

Ok, so enough are into it that it will be a great experience. Here's what I will do. I am going to set up a secret santa email account and I will create a seperate thread over the weekend for signup. People can PM me their info or email it to that account. I will let people sign up from now until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. On Wednesday evening, I will randomly assign each person to get a gift for another person, and I will email/PM each person who their gift will be for.

Some folks might want to get out there on "Black Friday" shopping and that gives a full month to get a gift and send it - especially helpful since we'll have some folks outside the USA participating. Then we'll make a secret santa gift thread and we can post pics. I'm sure there will be some humorous gifts and it will be fun to see what folks got.

So, I'll make that thread this weekend, so hold off signing up until I start that
