I just purchased a '90 348ts and would like to install a good security system. I have read some threads on what the best radar detector is and I figured some of you out there would have an opinion on what a good security system and additional features might be good for my new f-car. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

People may think I am crazy but forget the alarm and just install a flashing deterrent LED ($2 from radio shack) and a kill switch. If you want to get a bit more serious buy a shifter lock (super easy security) What more do you really need?

I don't even lock my doors - mainly so if someone decides he is gonna try and get something I would rather he not tear something up getting in only to find that there is nothing to steal. I let the shift lock and kill switch do the rest.

I'm with Tommy on this one!

If somebody wants your car, they'll get it.

If somebody wants the CD that you left on the passenger seat, they'll get it.

If somebody wants an emblem or a horse, they'll get it.

Pick the best VISUAL deterrents you can find, and park in "smart" locations. I strongly believe in the shift-gate locks because they are a very strong visual deterrent, and could not easily be removed by a joy-riding kid without some tools.

I used to swear by "The Club" when I lived in LA. It's so "in your face", that many thieves probably look in the window, see that big steering wheel lock, and simply move onto the next car. These days, it's just too big & bulky for practical use. Moreover, I'm not likely to park my 348 anyway I can't keep an eye on it. It's sooooo dang sexy, I just love looking at it. (Heck, I need some springtime driving soon. My Ferrari hormones are out of control)
