    Hey Guys,

On July/07/05 (Thursday)at the Firestone located at 5285 Yonge St. (east side of yonge, between Sheppard and finch)..there will be a charity event co-sponsered by Firestone and Bridgestone (as well as a number of generous merchants in the local area....)

On display, will be Schummy's 2003 F1 car, as well as Patrick Carpentier's R.I.C Red-Bull car...also, there will be an interactive Racing simulator (more than just Gran Torismo 3,lol !!) My humble F car will also be there...no doubt, feeling a little insecure being near these two monster machines, lol :)

Anyone interested in displaying their F cars or unusual cars is more than welcome to join....its for a good cause and It would be nice to meet up with other local F-chatters on this board.

Either way, you dont need an F-car or any car for that matter to come down and see these killer racing machines...the more, the merrier!

Tim Coughlin, the owner/manager of the Firestone, is a great guy who is doing this on behalf of two long time customers of his shop whose sons both had horrific accidents not long ago. One is a Police officer, the other a local real estate developer. My understanding is there will be both raffles and food/merchandise/entertainment sales with all the profits going directly to the familys of these two young men.

I will be providing updates with more info shortly, but feel free to PM me with any questions or contact Tim at Firestone directly at 416 222 2559.

Hope to see you there, and keep an eye out for further updates....

Spoke to Tim, He said the cars will be there by 9am...and should be there until at least 4 pm...to bad its a work day. He expects most of the "action" to take place around lunch time...which makes sense.

That date is very close to the event we were all talking about doing at the mall at Yonge and Steeles. Maybe we should make everyone go to the Firestone with their cars instead. Seems like a good cause.

Or we can just have two event's. Sweeet ;)

The bummer about this Firestone thing is its during a workday...not as practical for most, I would imagine. Its works out great for me as I happen to work right across the street.

I thought that steeles/yonge thing fizzed out, anybody else with a potential date for a get together/drive?

I used to work in the building on the south side of Norton ave. Firestone is on the North side.

This is where Q107 used to be until a couple of years ago. (lots of memories working for them) For anyone who remembers them, Jesse and Gene used to do the morning show there.

Twice they had a street naming ceremony just behind the Firestone shop. There is an alley way there and it was named "Jesse and Gene Way." I think the signs are still there. So I might just check y'all out at Yonge and Jesse and Gene Way.

Tim tells me he has an "arrangement" with the guy who runs the parking lot just behind him on Norton...so parking shouldnt be a problem.

As to the bumpy area..its not the best Ive seen..but it is certainly doable...just dont fly in there a 50 knots, lol

You can come without a car of any kind...but who wouldn't love a TT x-50?...its the car I used to have b4 my first Fcar,...sweet!!

Im sure people would love to see it....

The guys who own/run an incredible italian restaurant across the street, Mezza notte, who, by the way, are also generously supporting the event...will be displaying a 1960's Fiat 500..talk about a mini-car...it makes the smart cars look huge in comparision.

Any cool or unusual car is welcome, of course...the more the merrier. If you are concerned about parking or placement, I urge you to contact Tim directly at Firestone...I have no official connection with this event,...just helping it out with some Online advertising, lol.

    Goldy,

Thank you for the heads-up. That day is my b/day, and this would be a nice way to spend part of it. I'm going to try to make it - hope to see you and some other Fchatters there.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Oh ya, those many nights spent at what was BFT's after my shift. I was there right from day one for Q in that building until Jan. 1999. All the staff hated the place. Derringer who now does mornings was one of the most vocal about it. As for name recognition, the only Kathy I remember is one of the news girls, and Jaime...well Jaime the receptionist I'm sure. I got along with her great. I think she's still with them in their new digs at Yonge and Dundas.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking this thread for this drivel. Perhaps I'll see you at the event.

    Best,

    Joel

Was there too. Didn't see you Goldy, but I did see your car parked beside a couple of cool Harley's including a police Harley, and an S2000 on your other side.

Your car is very nice. I like the colour. Looks much better in person. None of these cars look anywhere near as nice in pics.

I only had a chance to stop by in the morning when I dropped of the car, and at lunch for a little while. There was this wild drummer guy going at it at lunch time, very entertaining!

Sorry I didnt see you guys there, but work unfortunately was a bit wonky today...when isnt it lately ? :(

Besides the Paul Tracy, Patrick Carpentiers, and Schummy's race cars...there were a few Harleys, a tricked out S2000 with cool looking carbon fibre hood,a fusion MB convertible SLK?,an old 67 vette coup

Nice pics of Shummy's car, Jack...I will post some of my other pics this weekend.

Overall, the event was a success with fun had by all, and at least a couple grand raised for the charity. Good job by all the guys at Firestone for organizing this outting for a very worth-while cause.

Sorry you couldnt be there Vasco, but there should eventually be enough pics on this thread so that you can at least have a good taste of what was there. I will be posting some more on the weekend.

The funny thing was, I worked right across from it, had my car there as well, and even I could only spend a total of about 20 minutes over the course of a full day event, lol. Work sure does get in the way sometimes!
