I've decided to give my made-in-'71-registered-as-a-'72 Euro 246GT (#2840) a freshening. My car has the original black Dino vinyl in good condition on the bulkhead cover and trim pieces next to it, sill covers, covers for the backs of the seats, and door caps (metal part). The central tunnel cover has some cigarette burns and scuff marks. The handbrake cover has a hole in it. The dash, seats, and board portions of the door panels have been redone in black leather to a mediocre standard. The carpet is not original and not attractive to my eye. Everything is black, which would be consistent with the car having been Fly yellow originally (now red.) I would therefore like to redo the central tunnel, handbrake cover, leather parts, and carpet. Also, while being aware of the practicality of black, it is a bit like sitting in a coal bin. So I would like to change to tan. What parts were leather in leather-seated cars? Just the seats? Seats + door panels? Seats + door panels + bulkhead cover? Everything including A-pillar covers--not a speck of vinyl in sight? What parts were black in a tan-seated car? Same items as above? I'm not a big concourse fan, but it would be silly to do it incorrectly. Thanks for your help.
The interior of my car which is being refurbed in tan leather, items include seats, door panels and rear bulkhead centre section,The rest is in black vinyl. Graham
In my car, when I bought it, I had, Leather seats, door panels and firewall cover. ALL BLACK. Carpet was red. The rest was black vinyl. I refinished it in tan/black leather for the seats, tan door panels and the rear firewall is black with black carpets. I left the rest alone. I've seen them all kinds of ways including all leather, including the center console stuff. I've used Matt at Re-originals for the information on this. Even the rear firewall cover was available in vinyl or leather, and some have more ribs than others, and they cary in size somewhat year to year, according to him. I haven't replaced the rear firewall cover yet. I'm trying to re-use the original one, which is in good shape except for the padding. We'll see what my interior guy can do with it. Dave . That looks really nice, Dave. I think I've found what I want my car to look like. Enough going on visually to not be boring but not too bling-bling. Did you go with black carpets because they're practical, you like it best, or both? Were tan carpets original? I note that beyond black and red Reoriginals just has a beige color that doesn't look that appealing. Jim
JIm. My car left the factory with white paint, blue leather seats and RED carpets. You might try www.worldulp.com. world upholstery may have more options. I chose black becasue it went well with the other pieces of trim, and was easier to keep clean than tan, but mostly because I liked the way it looked with the rest of the interior. I tried it out by ordering inexpensive floor mats that covered the entire front carpet area first. I got those at www.ggbailey.com for under $100, custom cut to fit my interior, exactly. DM
www.ggbailey.com you cut a template, they make them EXACTLY THE SIZE, STYLE AND COLOR YOU WANT. http://www.ggbailey.com/escalate/store/DetailPage?pls=ggbailey&bc=ggbailey&pc=PATTERN_KIT&group=noconfig I cut mine from the actual pieces of carpet in front, got an exact match, they work great. I think they were $99, and took 3-4 days to get. And they are excellent quality. Dave
