Hello. I'm looking to have a small silicone caulk line repaired on one of my prized concours grade cars. I live in DC and store my cars in Maryland, near Baltimore. Can anyone recommend someone with the skill and experience in my surrounding region with a talent working on extremely high-grade cars? This is an exceptional vehicle and I'm very particular, so I need to find someone who knows what they are doing. I'm guessing this may be an exceptional paint and body person. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you.

How far will you travel? (Or rather probably, ship the car.)

These folks are +- 2 hours north of Baltimore.

Among the best there is, I've been in the shop several times, although not in the last few years and seen up close the quality of their work.

They were at one time the only shop Algar would send cars to, not sure if that tradition continued after Bob sold the dealership.

I’ve been living in the area for 17 years and still haven’t found the perfect body man. Some are great in some respects, but not others. Haven’t found the full package yet.

I hope you find someone local, in other quests for quality work, I have had to fly people in from across the country. A friend of mine flew two people in from Italy and put them up for 4 months, I was at his place while they work working, the two spent over an hour just talking about how best to do the work. True craftsmanship is hard to find these days.

For bodywork IMO you’re probably better off shipping your car out of DC then trying to find someone here. I have no experience with karosserie or D&V who are the big names around here. I’m sure there are others that I just don’t know, but again I have no experience.

Karosserie has a great reputation. Short of taking it to Wisconsin not sure you'll find better.

Another possibility is Paul Russell in Mass. Thats a little closer.

What about Norwood in Dallas? Don’t they have a world class body shop?

Gentlemen - thank you for all your kind thoughts and advice. To be clear, this is not a modern car. It’s an 80’s era multi-platinum concours car. Also, it needs absolutely no body work whatsoever. It simply needs a 1.5”-2” silicone caulk like improved. Given the significance of the car, I would only have a very talented hand work on it. That said, there is absolutely no rush. I very much appreciate the thoughtful comments.

Late to this party - but is White Post Restoration a possibility? They are central Va. No clue if their service menu includes this type of work, but my experiences w them have been extraordinary.

Respectfully a 2 inch touch up on a caulking line is a minor and simple repair that can be done to perfection literally in a parking lot. It is well within the capabilities of any quality body shop. Seeking out some of the best restoration facilities in the country for this repair is like insisting on killing a mosquito with an army tank. When these cars were new the process for doing the caulk lines is something that varied a lot from car to car and was done with a minimum of skill or care.

Honestly, if it’s just a caulk line I have an amazing tile guy that lives in Stevensville that would love to check out your car. ;)

Thank you all for your comments on suggestions. I am second to none in my respect for the best of the best restoration operations given that I myself have recently had one of my cars restored in the very highest standard. This situation doesn't call for their time. I have been in touch with two expert auto caulkers and I'm quit confident that the matter will be handled successfully. I'll report the final outcome. Thank you again.

Is this a windshield issue? I’m dying to know where the caulk is.

Was recommend a local guy offline in thr Maryland area who's an expert caulker (believe it or not, caulking is all he does). He came out to the facility yesterday and perfectly fixed the spot. Anyone needing someone who does exceptional work please let me know. Thank you for your thoughts.
