I have a Shoei RF1000 which is so nice and an Arai which is terrific but noisy and a stupid visor design. Wondering if there are other options. The Schuberth looks like it is not as cool as it is made out to be. I don't want a sun visor so why deal with weight.

Anything else that is light and well engineered?

Try a Suomy(2 out of 3 on Sunday's Moto GP) or a Roof if you can get them where you are. Rule of thumb though once a Shoei head always a Shoei head. I sell helmets for a living and have found that this is nearly always the case. RF old helmet now try a XR1000 or a Raid II in the Shoei range . Good luck

I've tried some Shoei and Arai helmets and haven't been too impressed, but I think a lot comes down to the shape of your head. I seem to fit FMs really well.

My Arai Quantum /f is the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn; and I grew up riding motorcycles.

I've had tons of Arais, but I wear a Shoei everyday (that I ride). Comfy and the shield change takes 3 seconds.

I don't know about other brands.

Might take a look at AGV. I have an XR-2 for the track, not bad at all for my head. They fit a little small though and it's tough to find them without rossi's number and graphics plastered all over them.

I like Arai the best. My RX-7 has great ventilation and once you get the hang of it the visor switches out quickly. You have to wear ear plugs with it though as it is real noisy. You should wear earplugs anyway as it reduces rider fatigue and protects your hearing.

I'm with you. I will try on a Shark RSR2 which is new and looks like it has shed even more weight.

Sadly they can't be found easily local.

Roof helmets are made in France. They are renown for being one of the quietest helmets on the market. Won product of the year a couple of years ago. They are distributed by Thunderchild distribution here in the UK. They were designed with the help of a brain surgeon to offer high levels of protection. They did design a pure carbonfibre one but cost were very very high so only produced in limited No's. The fit is very similar to Shoei shape head. Please be aware that the major manufactures make different shell shapes for different markets. IE Europe, USA, East Asia etc. My personal helmets are Suomy Spec1/Extreme and Arai RX7 Cosair as these fit my head shape. I have a signed copy of James Toseland's(WSB Champ) Suomy rep in the shop at present

Helmets are for protection. The larger the helmet, the greater the crush zone, and generally the larger the helmet the more protection they provide. Fit is important in that you need a tight fit, or the helmet will come of in the event of a crash. When we raced, we'd get a custom fit for the helmet.

I'd buy for the protection, and that generally means Arai if you're buying for the street. If you don't like the fit, get it re-done, and make it fit properly. The test of a helmet is where you're coherent after a crash, not how well it fits.

I tried to find a Roof website and could not. There was a US dealer but they no longer list them.

Any ideas on their factory website or a USA representative?

i agree w/ art. i would add that i have (independent of safety) always raced w/ arai helmets as they sponsor the daytona 200! i used to have a helmet deal as well but now i have to pay for my own and would not use anything but an arai!

    btw...art how is vincient?

www.t-child.com main importers for Roof helmets in UK try them if your interested in their products. Not sure if they meet your Snell type approval, as I said earlier each manufacturer makes different helmets for different markets. I know that Suomy,Arai,Shoei are Snell approved for USA market aswell are the British(ACU) and Euro 22.5 standards.
