HI: I'M READY TO GIVE MY 69 MIURA A PAINT JOB THE LAST ONE 25 YEARS AGO WAS NOT THE BEST. I'M ALSO GOING TO RE DUE THE INTERIOR . THE ORIGINAL CAR IS WHITE WITH BLACK BOTTOM. THE INTERIOR IS BLAKE VINYL (SKAI ) I WAS TOYING WITH THE IDEA OF GOING WITH EITHER A CANDY WHITE OR A PEARL WHITE FOR THE EXTERIOR WITH BLACK BOTTOM. AS FOR THE INTERIOR GOING EXOTIC SKINS OR PELTS. MIXING BLACK STINGRAY WITH ONE WHITE DIAMOND FOR THE SEATS ALTERNATING WITH SOLID BLACK PANELS,LIKE A TUCK AND ROLL BUT ORIGINAL STYLE, THE REST OF THE SEAT ALL BLACK STINGRAY. AS FOR THE REST OF INTERIOR GOING WITH MIX OF STINGRAY IN BLACK AND A MIX OF BLACK SEA SNAKE OR BLACK WHALE SHARK. NOT A CRAZY OVER KILL THAT DISTRACTING. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
unlike someone who owns say and Espada I would be most concerned with if you ever sold it would that then detract from a proper price or scare off many buyers if it was not original?? gary Espada 8394
It is in your financial interest, to restore the car as close as possible, to the original factory condition and colors.
Become very, very famous like Frank Sinatra famous first. Then have it done by a famous restoration shop as a part of a multi episode TV show. THEN you might be able to pull something like that off. There ARE cars like that out there but with no provenance of being built for someone famous by a high class custom shop back in the day you're just pissing your money away. That's fine if it doesn't matter to you because it IS your car and Miuras are not particularly rare just highly coveted. I get why the vinyl isn't terrible appealing. I think you'll find that plenty of people HAVE made some upgrades. A color change to another factory color is usually reasonably well received. A visit to Gary Bobileff's shop might be worth the airfare.
I would stay close with the original colors / configuration as the others have said. Would love to see some photos of your car.. please post some!
Contact our John Houghtaling III, he just had a car redone and it came out NICE!! Start there........
A snail's pace. Yet, he does excellent work. This month, he is going to weld over and finish; the rear quarter panel cut-out, for the DOT exterior marker lights. My father, just pulled his car from the same shop - F.V. HK 500.
Sounds great. I think the addition of a bullhorn on the hood would exquisitely stand out and be quite original. No one has one yet.
you can have resprayed it in candy, tangerine, pink rose... it is always possible to come bakc to an original paint. You bet to never replace the ORIGINAL black skai interior !
Reno, How goes it these days? Good to hear you are still persisting with this project yourself. When you contacted me privately last year, I thought the idea was to complete the car to original specs using some material in my book http://joesackey.com/the-lamborghini-miura-bible/ which I sent you as a guide. I highly recommend that you restore the car to original specs for 2 basic reasons: 1. It will give you far more personal satisfaction to know that you have 'rescued' the car and returned it to its original state as its was when originally built. Nothing beats the pride of being able to say this to someone who encounters you & the car when restored, versus having to tell a long story about why you made the regrettable decision to do something that many will not approve of. 2. When you come to sell (as you had discussed at one point with me about doing), you will get all the money if the car is in original specs. That is just how today's classic car market works. Modify at you own peril, because personalization can easily render even a desirable model sale-proof. Also, we spoke about restoring the car, and there is absolutely no need to ship it all the way back to Italy or even Canada to do this. You have quite a few resources close to you and we can discuss these privately if you like. I hope my thoughts are helpful to you. By the way, please disengage the "Caps Lock" you have set on your computer's keyboard and type in small caps. If you look around, Caps are only used when someone is emphasizing or shouting, so it looks as if you are yelling in all your posts no big deal, just something to change. I wish you luck on this, and let me know if I can help you in any way. I sent you an e-mail again in case you don't have my contact handy.
Peter, I've seen cars with changes like this. Ostrich is not very comfortable to sit on but people do it. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187217&page=108
Never understood the allure of ostrich myself. I'm a biker and we see it a lot on customs and choppers. So you want leather... but you want it to have pimples all over it? Just don't get it.
