I'm producing a documentary show for Velocity about the events surrounding the PCH Enzo crash and I'd love to talk to anyone who has knowledge of the now Black/Red Enzo. It looks like it was last registered in Paris, anyone know more? I'm based in Los Angeles but will be in the UK a few times this year and would love to link up with the current owner if it's still in Europe.
    Thanks all!

If the only thing they re-used was the VIN, that would be one thing. But if they re-used any of the more significant bits, that would be a completely different story in my opinion.

At the time of this crash, rumor had it the Enzo was racing another known individual in the exotic car scene, in a Benz.

Ironically, that same "alleged" individual he was racing, recently passed.

The above details could be nice mentions in your feature.

Are you familiar with the person driving the other car? I'd love to talk over DM/email. THanks.

Let's just say it involved an accident on a public road, a stretch eerily close to where the Enzo crashed.

    Tragically ironic.

Out of respect for his family & loved ones - whom I suspect frequent this board - I'd rather avoid discussing names/details publicly.

I don't think irony means what you think it means.

One of my old customers purchased the wreck and had Ferrari rebuild the car. The only original part from the original car that was reused was the VIN. In fact all of the original parts from the car were destroyed by Ferrari so they could not be reused. He was quoted 680,000 Euro to have the car rebuilt, but when the car was done the bill was over 800,000 Euro.

This might raise the question for collectors many years from now of how many cars were really built. X or X + 1?

Was that the one that crashed and burned near Laguna Seca?

Ferrari has rebuilt at least 5 Enzos now from nothing but the serial number. When the car was first created, only a certain number of VINs were allotted for that model car. So once those are used up, they cannot make any more. But if a car is destroyed, they can build a new car using the VIN from the old one.

Technically they are not building another new car, just restoring one of the originals, hence having to reuse the VIN. So the number of cars built has not changed.

This was the PCH wreck in 2006? The story I had heard was that it was shipped back to Ferrari who rebuilt it and then auctioned it at RM for about $1.6M. This story has a lot of variations so I'm very interested to hear any more about your customers car. Thanks!

The one which sold at 2016 RM Paris belonged to Nicolas Todt (founder of ARM - - - All Road Management - - and son of Jean Todt), at the time it was auctioned.

Was this for the Todt family? I'd love to hear more about this car. The story I heard on this one is that it went back to Ferrari directly from Malibu and they did the restoration at a cost of 3-400k USD. It then changed hands a few times before being sold at RM for about 1.7M.
