The first registration date for my Dino is about two months shy of the cut off for free road tax. I'm told that it's the manufactoring date that counts; does anyone know where I can retrieve this information? Thanks

    Neil,

Sorry to disappoint you but it IS, I believe, the date of first registration, not the date of manufacture......I had a similar query on my MG Midget and was told that its the date thats on your registration document that counts!

When I imported my 1975 208 the Italian Registration document only had the year of manufacture, the DVLA required the month (because of the August plate change). I contacted Ferrari UK who were kind enough to contact Italy and confirm in writing the month of manufacture.

    Sorry Bertone,

You are wrong, the date of manufacture is the cut off date.

A car built in 1972 but registered in 73-74 is eligible for free road tax (lucky B) LOL.

Contact Ferrari with the chassis number and they can get the date from the factory, you might be able to do it on the Ferrari Owners website.

    Regards,
    Phil.

    Mmmmmm interesting, I stand corrected.

The DVLA told me it was the registration date that counts as ive got a Midget built in 72 but not registered til 74 and they wouldnt entertain it!

    Bertone,

You need to sort them out over the Midget, they are wrong!! You need to get a Heritage certificate for the car it will show when it was built.

    Regards,
    Phil.

Once a vehicle has been registered and is in their system, it can't be backdated.

But if it's not in their system, then they have to go on whatever evidence you can supply. So if a vehicle was registered abroad in 1975, but built in 1973 and you have evidence to prove this date of manufacture, then you can get it registered as 1973

Whereas if you have say a late MGB manufactured in 1980 but not registered till 1990, then it will be treated as a 1990 car...along with all the MOT requirements of that year!
