Actually it's not. The fastest I know an Enzo has ever gone was 370km/h.

The McLaren F1, Koenigsegg CC8S, Koenigsegg CCR and Bugatti Veyron all achieve 380km/h +

The Veyron doesn't really count in my opinion because you must stop the car a specifically prepare it for a high speed run. I was told that when you prepare for a high speed run, you actually are making the car illegal for EPA/DOT regs (if it were tested in this setup). Not so for the F1 or the K-egg, just get in and go for those two.

Who cares about top speed anyway? It loses to the Carrera GT in its element-- the racetrack. Although, we saw the CGT changing wheels/tires and the Enzo had its windows down-- could make a 1sec diff. And 1 second in the hands of the media could be a poor driver.

Point is, the Enzo lost, so in this case the CGT (a worthy competitor) is King.

I thought the official record of the Mc Laren F1 (street - without wing) was 371KmH and 340KmH for the LM version...

That track was pretty questionable. They even said it was too windy for the Enzo's aero. On the Top Gear test track the Enzo is king, beating the CGT.

Nope. The in car speedo recorded 391km/h, but the actual top speed reached was 386.7km/h, the official McLaren F1 record being set on the 9 km straight line VW Ehra facility in Wolfsburg, Germany.

This link explains why the Enzo didn't reach it's top speed at Nardo http://www.koenigsegg.com/record_pressrelease.asp

There is a later test with a CGT, Enzo and Murcielago where the CGT wins again, but by a much smaller margin. They did bring up the track size though and stated that the CGT had slightly better lower speed handling while the Enzo had better high speed cornering.

I guess it makes sense, in F1 going faster in the fast corners is more important than going faster in the slow corners.

It does indeed. There are other factor to take into consideration as well, though. While the Enzo has aero features inspired by F1 cars, it is not identical...

The faster you go, the more downforce you have (until the Enzo's active aero goes into highspeed mode at 220km/h). So naturally if you're slower, you have less downforce and grip. But this should affect both the Enzo and CGT. At lower speeds there may also be the problem of how much the traction control systems interfere. You have the elasticity of the engine to think about. You have the brakes, the gearbox, suspension, tyres... everything really.

I can't give a definite answer as to why the Enzo was slower, because I don't know the layout of the track. I would be careful about blaming it all on the aero...although it could be the cause.

    Any ideas? Race engineers, here?
