Yeah, but you set a land speed record in a parking garage, so you don't count.

Know the feeling...it was the starter on the 330 2+2.

I've had the 308 for nearly a year now, and don't even think about other drivers reactions when in it. It gets looks, and the occasional thumbs-up and comments, but my guess is that most people think it's a late model Corvette.

The old 4-headlighter attracted much more attention; therefore, I was more self-conscious while driving it.

Nope, never. Certainly not in any bad way. They are meant to be looked at. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Comes with the car.

This is relatable. Being fairly young I don't feel comfortable taking the car to places that I am used to going or that some friends still go. But then I realize that what is the point of having the car if people who I have no connection with make me not want to drive it. So I quickly get over it and thank God for the means to fuel my passion.

I have a home in Western North Carolina where I do most of my Ferrari driving(F430 & Stradale) because the roads are great and there is little law enforcement back in the hollars. The problem is not being nervous because I have tracked a lot but what we call the FERRARI EFFECT makes me nervous. The FERRARI EFFECT is some normal person driving along to suddenly become Mario Adnretti because they see a Ferrari. I be doing 60-70 mph on a mountain road and some local in a pickup will get right on my rear to let me know he can race too. I used to really pick up the pace but don't anymore because I don't want
the person behind me to kill themselves trying to keep up - like they really can keep up with a F430 F1. The other part of the EFFECT is when in traffic a perrson does all kinds of crazy driving inorder to get next to you so they can lean out the window to yell at you

Self-conscious only while parking. I only notice how many looks I get when I have a passenger and they keep commenting on how many people are staring at us. I did experience the Ferrari Effect the last time I took her out. Running down the freeway in moderately congested traffic and a guy in a pickup truck decides to pace me in the lane to my left about a car length in front of me. Doing about 50, if I speed up, he speeds up. I just hung back for a few miles and eventually he took off. Now he can tell his friends and family about the time he whooped a Ferrari.

I live in a small town in Virginia and most people have never even seen a Ferrari except on TV. When I first
got her, I was very aware of all the people staring at me. Kinda embarassing really.... as I am not really in need of the attention
or want to brag. Still am a bit aware of the people starting to a certain extent, but not so much as in the first month or so.

Still is quite the spectacle when I get gas though. At least 3-4 camera phone pics. Everyone is super polite and just excited
to see it. Part of the fun of owning a Ferrari to me is sharing it, taking people for rides, letting kids sit in it, answering dumb questions(is that thing fast?).
    :)

The answer to the original question is yes. Sometimes I do feel the attention is too much. Someone, years ago, described it as a "guilty pleasure" which i think apropos. Might be, that like Hunter, I live in a small town. In my case its a resort destination, at the end of some sublime roads, so some pretty amazing cars come through, but I am the only exotic owner in the area. I dont think feeling self conscious of owning such a car is a bad thing, it just indicates that the owner is aware of the privilege that has been afforded them, one that is not shared by all.
