My intention is not to spam the board with this request, but i am at a bit of a loss as to how i go about doing this.

I have a HUGE collection of 1970 to 1972 Z28 camaro and 1970 to 1981 trans am parts. 3 engines, 10 trannys ( auto and 4 speed), sheetmetal, glass, gauges, seats, t tops, wheels, wiring harnesses list goes on. i have never been a member of Ebay, and i am a bit scared to put all of this stuff on there. i want it all gone in one lump, no selling off bits and pieces. perhaps EBAY is the only way? shall i consider an ad in one of the publications that caters to muscle cars?

another question, what are my responsibilites as far as taxes go? i am guessing the stuff is worth way over $35,000+. i am going to try to get a little over half of that amount. the only thing i want to keep are my tools and anything that goes to the Ferrari. i am very motivated to get a carb Boxer, but i must get all my ducks in arow before doing so.

any help or advice would be of tremendous help to me, i can post general pics and more specific info if required. i do not want to piss off ROB LAY or the Moderators with this thread. i could really use some direction on how best to liquidate all these items. thanks for any help, Michael .

The fastest way out would be to call one of the places that advertises used camaro parts in the back of the car mags.
Have them give you one price for the whole enchilllada.

Personally I would start running ads on Ebay for the high dollar items that are easy to ship, like tranny's. Make sure you include a charge for proper packaging
    for shipment.

After you thin the herd, then call the Second hand parts place.

I cant even sell the interior of my 512TR as one lump sum. I think you'll have to break it up to move it

Best thing to do would be to seperate all the parts up for the Firebirds and the Cameros. Then contact your local car clubs or surrounding area clubs and let them you you have parts for sale. many of these places will do a big buy and then sell parts off as needed. I did this with a Corvette club in my area when I dumped all my Vette stuff. You will get low balled..but meet someplace in the middle. Another option is to visit local muscel car shows, and speak to a few owners of the cars. These guys will know other guys that need parts for their cars. Word will travel fast. You will be rid of that stuff before you know it.

Have a friend post them on E-Bay for you. You'll make more money taking your time and parting it out than trying to get rid of it in a lump sum. Whats the rush?

Check out the message boards at www.gsfcc.com There are a few guys around there that are into the second and third gen cars. You may at least get some leads on buyers.

There is one guy on there that is restoring a couple I think.

thanks, i have a freaking ton of rare hard to get bits and pieces as well as whole front ends, glass, engines, trannys ect.

the rush is my promotion at work has lead to some new opportunities. i am single and willing to fly where / when needed to do "whatever". i want to save now, spend later. taking forever to deal with a buch of scamers on ebay is not my idea of fun. i have had over 140 corvettes, z28's and trans ams. and i have the leftovers parts, the pics and tag reciepts to prove it. i would rather have one nice Ferrari or carb Countach than a fleet of musclecars. yes, many of the musclecars are worth MORE ( and are faster in a straight line) than the F and L cars i lust after. but i dont care anymore, my tastes have changed. :) cheers.

i can build SEVERAL early trans ams and Z28's. i even have glass, sheetmetal and complete front to back wiring harness's. the early noses for the trans ams are rare . i have a Mulsanne blue 73 nose hanging on the wall. the 73's are unique as the impact standards changed and they are different from 70 to 72 models.

Carreaper, I would think that as far as taxes go, if you sell it all at a profit, then that would be a capital gain, and you would owe taxes on the profit. I think that it's basically an honor system. If you paid $20,000 for the entire pile over a period of years, and you sell it all for $35,000, then you would be taxed on $15,000. YOU know what you paid for everything; Uncle Sam does not. But I'm sure that Uncle Sam would appreciate anything extra that you might send along to him. Hey all you tax savy guys, isn't that correct? Of course if you have a paid storage space to store all this stuff, then I guess that you could honestly deduct your storage expenses from the profit. But I'm no expert. I've toyed with the idea of seriously thinning my automotive herd, but it IS a hassle to deal with getting rid of things.
Here's another simple tax question that I've wondered about. If I buy a garage full of hubcaps for $1000, and I find ONE rare hubcap in the bunch and sell it for $1000, have I made a profit? I'm ending up with more than HUBCAPS than I started with, but not any more money. According to Uncle Sam, did I make a profit? (all this assumes that I'm not in the parts business and it's all just my hobby.)

Now you are preaching to the chior, carreaper!

1967 Convertible, 400CI, with hood tach.
1978 Formula 350 (Chevy, not really a Pontiac!)
    1994 25th Anniversary LT1 6 speed (I guess a Chevy motor's no big deal anymore!)

I guess I've gone 500,000 miles total, counting all three.

And we won Daytona this year! LOL!

got a 455sd in your collection of engines?

anyways, depends if you need room. You could sell the parts. Check if maybe there is a camero or transam club in your area. Perhaps they will buy stuff off you
