I have bought my 512tr just before my wife got pregnant with our first child, three years ago. Since we are with three people, the car is collecting more dust, then it sees real action. So i'm going to sell my beloved it 512tr and buy another Ferrari, that can seat three people.
Next week I have a meeting with the dealership about an FF (testdrive) and I was wondering if anybody has some experience with trading in the 512tr when you buy a new one. We didn't talk about price, but the dealer say the 512tr are in demand again...

Honest car dealer hey? I guess his trade in offer will speak for itself. Can you give us some details, pics, VIN? I believe you'll get a better deal here.

You are probably right that I will be better of price wise if I would sell it myself, but I'm a little fed up with people that come look at the car. I had the idea a few month's ago to sell the car myself... but the wierdo's and the time I had to put in to show the car, answer questions, and so on let me just end the listing of the car. Besides that, the car is in Belgium.

I hear ya. I got thrown out of the first sportscar I ever test drove. I wanted to check the 0-100 kph on a city street using a wrist watch. After dumping it, the dealer kicked me out and made me walk back. I ended up buying the car.

Most high end dealer are honest and are in it for the longterm. The really good ones build relationship with their costumers and understand that it will not be just 'one' car that they can sell or service...

Hello Daniel; Why are you considering buying a Ferrari as a "Family car"?....I think the idea of a "Family Car" with 500hp as an oxymoron. I would be more concerned with safety, practicality, reliability & not suffering huge depreciation. Hard to beat a Volvo for safety, reliability, depreciation. The price "Gap" between the trade in value of your TR & the new "Family Ferrari" (?!) could buy you a brand new Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, "True" family car. Congratulations on your child!!!....Mark

I'm not looking for a 'family' car, I allready have such a car. I'm looking for a car that is excotic, fun to drive and a car that does not make me choose between my wife or daughter to come with me... I have driven the 512tr for +- 1500 miles in the last year and a half... It is just collecting dust in the garage. And the price 'gap', you are absolutly right. But we work hard for our money, like everybody else on this forum, and what is the fun of having money and not spending it? ;-) If I choose to buy the FF, it will not be that something else will suffer in our financial life. Other news: I had a call this morning from a friend of the dealer, asking me that it is true I'm going to sell my 512tr. I said yes, and he allready made me an offer on the phone for the same ammount I paid for when I bought the car three years ago. If this deal goes through, I will have had a 512tr for three years with a cost of ownership of around 10000 dollars for the three years. The cheapest car I ever owned :)

    Daniel,
TR prices are going up. Read my thread from 2 months ago. In the last 6 months, they have been surging. When is the last time collectively that you have seen Testarossa prices in the 70-80K range. Unlike the mass produced 360's and 430's where there are literally over a hundred for sale, there may be only 15 TR's available. Subtract from that the TR's that actually have a maintenance history and are well sorted and you are down to 2-3.

If you want feedback, post the numbers and a pic.
