I am thinking of selling my 44 year owned LHD euro 246gt. Chassis 01162. Car is a great driver but needs body refurbishment. It has never been restored. Any advice as to the best way of selling and what a realistic price I can expect to achieve would be?
Bring a Trailer is always a reasonable choice to consider, if you are prepared to be very transparent about any details that may be asked and follow the online auction closely and respond to comments (and take a lot of photos!). It I think tends to be more US-buyer centric. Not sure where you or your Dino are. As for price, you can look at historical sales on Bring a Trailer, as well as Classic.com to get an idea of the market.. you could also list it in the classifieds here…
BAT works best for USA based cars, but they are (if the prices are to be believed and the rumors of shill bidding innacurate) probably the hottest market for these cars on the planet right now. Worth the money to ship the car stateside for sale either way, given the premium nice dinos are fetching here. Post some pictures, let the experts here get a peek at the condition, then maybe some pricing will follow. D
The M series looks pretty good in those photos. I guess you know all about Collecting Cars? Price wise i am very far from an expert on Dino's ,but with the GBP @ $1.18 yours could well be interesting to a USA buyer.
Great that you've owned the car for 44 years but you have supplied nowhere near enough information to deduce what the car may be worth. Great driver and body needs refurbishment does not cover it. How much refurbishment does the body need, repaint or full restoration? How are the chassis and floors? What condition is the engine in? Condition of interior? is it in original colours? Mileage and is that warranted? Is it matching numbers? Any accidents? Who has maintained the car? I could go on.
Yes, Had a complete new front end in 1980 after a London black cab pulled out in front of me! It wasnt possible to get an M series front end at the time.
How much refurbishment does the body need, repaint or full restoration? - Restoration as some metal needs replacing How are the chassis and floors? - All good. Photos can be supplied if required as rust treatred the chassis when I put a new floor in the car last year What condition is the engine in? - Runs well with no smoking. Temperature is steady and oil pressure good. Condition of interior? - Leather seats have great patina and are in good conditon. Carpets fair but I would say need to be replaced. Dash recovered by Mototechnique in 1981. Mousehair not available then so recovered in Pigskin/suede. is it in original colours? - Yes, Rosso Chiaro Mileage and is that warranted? - circa 109,000KM approx 67,700 miles. I have paperwork to back this up. Is it matching numbers? - Yes, As confimed by Mattias Bartz and Marcel Massini Any accidents? - see above previous reply. Who has maintained the car? - independent Dino specialist but mainly by myself.
Wrong front clip and wrong dash material are big negatives for purists; dash covering can be replaced, but new front clip not so much. (M-series 01712)
Would the whole front clip need changing or just the nose and front bumpers? Who other than Brandoli and Bachelli & Villa in Italy can make Dino body parts?
I suppose #01162 should have small bumpers as L-series cars. #01128 has them as well as #01222. Maybe Matthias can shime in.
Just about any somewhat accomplished coach work sheetmetal fabricator/shop in any part of the world. Long ago, a client gave me some pre-made Daytona replacement panels which he had received with the purchase of the car and were claimed(?) to have been made by one of the above. Eventually, when I attempted to use them during the restoration, found them not only far from accurate, but after fighting with the first (which initially appeared closest to accurate), gave up on the rest as it was clearly easier to make them from scratch instead to achieve quality fit without a truck load of body filler (i.e. bondo) and/or other questionable methods.
