Over the weekend I was having lunch with a couple of friends and as always we brought up the car topic. As we where chatting I made a comment that I felt I would like to sell my 355 to maybe buy a 360 CS. One of my friends immediately showed interest in my car and made me an offer that for my expectations was more than right. I looked for my father's advice and he said a small commentary that people say around here. "If they are buying... sell". I think It might be a good idea, but still have my doubts about selling the car. If I sell that will live me just sharing a 550 I bought jointly with my dad for a while. I would like to read some points of view on what you guys think. Thanks
Just take time to think about it............. Picture yourself without it and what your next steps would be. If it all looks good then make your friend happy. If it doesn't, then don't do it. The last thing you want is to be regretting the decision and seeing the car all the time because it's w/ a friend.
The bright side is, you still have another Ferrari to drive. If you really want the 360, sell the 355.
I just upgraded my 99' 355 F1 Spider to an 03' 360 F1 Spider and could'nt be happier. Believe it not, I had 3 seperate parties offering to buy my 355 (after only 2 weeks of advertising on only FCat). The buyer got a fantastic car, and I got a fair price. Most important, the 360 has exceeded my expectations! Tim
To me, a few thousand bucks isn't really what matters. Sounds like the car has a lot of sentimental value like most of our rides. Don't let a good deal take your ride away that you may not buy back. So, I'd look into the replacement before commiting the sale. This will give the new buyer a chance to think about the purchase. Selling car to a friend can be hard on the friendship since you may feel liable if anything should happen to it later on. If you feel 360 is the way to go, make sure the buyer and you are cool with all the arrangements (PPI, service needs). This way, there is no buyer / seller remorse. PS. Your ride must be nice to warrant a great offer. That's a great complement to you regardless of what you decide to do.
Jesus, If you are getting an above market price then sell it. If you were considering another model, then there should be not much to think about..... Take your skirt off and get a 430, tell dad to sell the 550 and he can share the 430 Time to experience new technology, MM
I fully agree with djauntlive's comment. A different subject, but once, I owned a Rolex Submariner watch (c1987) which was a present to myself for becoming a Navy Officer. I wore the watch for over 11 years - we went to the first Persian Gulf War together and numerous sea tours. I was offered a great price to sell the watch, which I did. It was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I regreted my decision. Subsequently, I purchased a newer version of the Rolex submariner, but it wasn't the same. You just can not replace the sentimental value of the object that you love. I also heard a story that Ralph Lauren once owned a classic car of some sort. When he was struggling that he had to sell that car. Now, that he is rich, he could have any car that he wants (which he does), but he stated that he misses that car and wishes that he had kept it somehow. (someone correct me this story if you know it) In my opinion, a new/modern is not necessary better. Keep your car if you love it.
I agree on the subject of sentimental value. Think long and hard. I too sold a car with sentimental value and it subsequently got stolen from it's new owner. I now have another car just like it and we get along fine but it's not the same.
Thanks Guys for all of your intresting replys. I made the decision to sell my 355. My father has agreed for me to borrow his 550. And regarding what I really wanted, I think it was the 360 Challege after all. I'm going to start lloking for it. Thanks for all your help.
If you are seriously thinking of a Stradale , then sell the 355 . Both cars are great and you wont have troubles falling in love all over again with the CS ..
