This could get into a huge discussion.

My only advice would be to start the car at $0.99 and ad a reserve to it. The more people you get bidding, the higher the price will go. If you start your price at $74,000 and your reserve is $75,000...then the chances of someone bidding on it is quite minimal.

I have about 5 years ebay power selling and buying experience. PM or post if you have any specific questions or need any help with listing.

Load lots of pictures of the details that show the car is in great condition. Typical wear areas that look like new will help bring out the better offers.

I am a Power Seller as well and I agree with what you said 100%. Make sure to add TONS of very clear pics, including a picture of the manuals, tool kit and keys. Be sure to explain how meticulously that you maintained this car (assuming that is true).

Do: Understand that ebay 99% of the time for f-cars is advertising.

Don't: Expect to sell it through the auction process and understand that many people are going to waste your time.

The 328. My plan was always to sell the 328, but it's such a fun car so I had a hard time letting go. Wish I can keep both though, you know what I mean ;). Maybe I'll have to follow your footsteps and pickup a Lotus? :)

I 100% disagree. Reserves are a waste of time. Set your price at what is the min you will take for it. Then also set a buy it now. eBay motors is advertising like kevin said, its not for actual sales most of the time. Make sure to have your phone # in the ad. Plan on a lot of calls and time wasters. Just make the description as honest and upfront and detailed as possible.

Reserves are a waste of time?! Are you a Power Seller like Phil and I? If not, then please tell me your point of reference or e-bay experience to make such a statement.

This sale REALLY sucks, as I just bought the car the end of April! I scowered the earth looking for the cleanest 348 I could find! Seven weeks later, I fell off a ladder and crushed my heel. I had surgery on 6/15 and can only (Now) put 40 pounds of pressure on it. Thinking I could drive it, I tried over the weekend and it was a fat NO-GO :(

I could probably be able to drive it the top of November, but that is the start of the rainy season in the Sierra's and I won't drive when it's crappy out and refuse to own a garage queen for six months.

Thanks for the tips so far and would like as many as possible!

    Pete

LOL, actully I make my living on eBay. Thanks for asking though. I sell powersports products, ATVs, Dirt bikes, scooters, etc. 99% of my business is done off ebay. When you set a reserve, you get a lot of jokers and people who are just "testing" the reserve. They are not serious. Its a waste. Just set the price at what you want, then let bidder decide what its worth. Its a proven eBay statistac that people are more likly to bid when there is no reserve. That means sombody will win the auction.

If this is your first ebay experence, and you don't have feedback you may want to see if jerry or phil or someone established will list it for you.

I have sold at least 7 cars on ebay and none sold throught the auction itself. Every deal was struck outside of the auction.

You will get alot of low ballers and tire kickers, but the real buyers do make themselves known.

I started from about day one on eBay and was one of the first software writers for bulk sales and if there was such a thing as a Power Buyer it would have my picture. Couple things I didn't see mentioned sofar...

Use accurate location information. People will do a car advanced search on eBay for cars located within 100 or 200 miles of their own zip code.

I bought a MB using this technique as I wanted a specific model and color. Although I preferred a non-lot car which I could check out locally. Car I wanted turned out to be at a lot - the same lot which sold my Fcar to my PO.

Car purchase on eBay is no big deal these days. A nephew bought a yearling MB of eBay using find near. My brother won eBay bid on an MB 1500 miles away and the distance cost lots of time and airfare. An employee won eBay on yearling MB in Canada...no problems. No ppi on any car mentioned. On newer cars CarFax is enuf.

Re: Reserves. I got hooked on a reserve at eBay Motors once but it came out ok. I bid the exact amount of the reserve and ebay didn't accept it as legit as it didn't exceed the reserve (criteria was greater than - not equal or greater than - this may have changed...donno). I ended up offering the guy $200 less off eBay for the car figuring he would save that much in eBay fees and he took the deal.

Definitely use reserve - there can be jerks in all auctions, reserve or not, but that unknown reserve does get people to bid in case it's their day for a super bargain. And even you start at $.99 and there are lots of low bids...there will be lots of guys coming back often and sometimes emotional competition takes hold. (I've been there) IMHO more bidders the better.

LOTS OF PICTURES SELL - LARGE ONES - no funny music or Active-X crap...just plain visuals.

And don't get ulcers watching the auction. Everything I bid on I snipe. (BidNip). More and more people are sniping as they come to understand the benefits. So you won't have any idea where things are going until the last 10 seconds are over. It's akin to silent bidding and highly desirable for bidders. But I've seen sellers 'pull' auctions that I was sniping, getting nervous that the bids are too low. Not realizing bids would greatly increase at the end.

Which brings me to my last suggestion...5 days is better than 10 days. You might think 10 days will give you a wider audience but few buyers wants to wait that long and will go elsewhere. 5 day w/reserve relisted is much better than 10 days (or 7)

When its over come back here and let us know what why and how much.

I was wondering why you were selling it. It did seem to me as though you'd just gotten it.

Considering I park my car 6 months every year I'm still surprised you're selling it.
I think you just weren't thrilled enough with it.

    Just a hunch. ;)

I'm a believer that these cars need to be driven. I'll shop again in the Spring. I'll use the winter for building custom dining tables in the garage.
