If you can afford to keep the F40, keep it. The Shelby Mustang (not a real one I think, just replica) looks bad@ss, but from the prices I've seen, it's a rip off. The F40 is a car that should bring more driving pleasure so I say keep it :)

    HA. That's funny.

I don't think I could ever afford an F40 so I guess I don't understand your problem BUT getting rid of an amazing Ferrari for a Mustang (no matter how great and rare it is) doesn't make sense to me.

Now having both with would be really cool...

You know, if you really want a Stang, you can always donate the F40 to a 'needy cause' (needy for an F40!). aka me. :D

Prices are all over because unlike say your Ferrari F40 anybody can make one. Expect to pay about 80-90G for a decently built one but 120-140 for a "SS" Version. If you want i can get you the actual manufacturer of the GT500E (they are the licened people who build em) and they actually get a new VIN ect. They are known as new vehicles by Ford Motor.

Last summer I had a meeting with a client at his residence and just by chance got a peak at some of his toys in one of the the garage bays. He has a completely original "Eleanor" with a signed dashbord by Mr. Shelby which his grandfather purchased new, which was passed down to his father, and now is in his possession. He stated people started approaching him with interest after the movie "Gone in Sixty Seconds" was released prior to that he said the value had increased steadily but not the increases since the release of the movie.

His car is rarer than an F40 by far, and the history of the car is one of a kind but I would rather have an F40 even if they were worth the same - It did not not evoke the same emotions that the F40 does when I see one.

Now an original GT 40 in powder blue with orange trim is a whole different animal!

There was no "original" eleanor's. The cars they used in the movie weren't even shelby's. They were modified Ford 350GT's

Both'd be cool. Though if the 40's got to go in order to score the "Eleanor", would suggest being certain you're done with the Ferrari. As diving back in down the road might be pricey (er).

Ford did produce GT500 Shelby Mustangs ... what the film used has little relevance, other than promoting the name.

    I prefer the GT350's looks myself ...

There is a company just outside of Dallas Texas that hand builds the Eleanor just as Shelby did. These cars are considered to be true GT500 Shelby Mustangs approved by Ford and Shelby himself. The base car starts at $120.000 “I think” with about 450 HP and the top end GT500 they build tops out at 800 HP with a price of $500.000…

Now I could see having an 800 HP GT500 over an F40, and I say that knowing that the F40 is my favorite car…

I love the Eleanor. I really do.
I was thinking of getting one too some time ago.
but there's no way I would trade one of those for an F40, I have a 67 mustang convetible, but i rather have a ferrrari anyday.

If you are going to sell the F40 I would be interested on it.
so please contact me I'll send you an offer.

You know if he was to post this on the other F-Chat (FordChat) he would get "get the GT and f*ck Ferrari" obviously there is a biased opinion here. But I still say keep the F40
