Wonder what would have happened if Senna went to Ferrari in 1993... (Trying to bump spoilers OFF of page 1)
i think, he'd still be alive today.. God rest his soul.. edit : i think we need more Mods here i wonder if Andreas is still celebrating
now that is a truly monumental 'What If'... Senna at Ferrari as the tides were starting to change there...
Senna was already talking about retirement shortly before he died. Why would he want to join a struggling team and have to build it up, when he could join the most competitive team and win straight away? He was already filthy rich.
There was always talk of Senna going to Ferrari, but, obviously, it never happened. I don´t think Senna was all that interested in the mystique of Ferrari. Senna was interested in the best car. He even offered to drive for free for Williams. I remember at the start of the season in 1991 (McLaren run the MP4/6 if I am not mistaken) where Senna was asked why this particular car showed so much resemblance to the Ferrari 641 of 1990 and Senna replyed something like: "If I can´t drive for Ferrari, I want McLaren to built me one"
how old was Senna when he passed? 33-34? i think he won't have achieved anything by goin to Ferrari anytime at that period. Ferrari were struggling...i don't think that attracted Senna at all..
He was 34 when he died, he also told his girlfriend, that the last car he wanted to drive before he retired from F1 was a Ferrari.
Hmmm, let's see: 1994: Non-fatal crash at Imola, makes comeback, takes WC. 1995-1997: WC each year (that makes 7 total) 1998: Williams lose Renault engines, Senna moves to Ferrari to become Schumacher's teammate. If only...
That is funny you wrote that, people inside of Williams in the late nineties were wearing Senna 7 Time WC T-Shirts. If Damon Hill and JV won in 96 and 97, Senna would have destroyed all records. The sad thing was the FW16 was coming good right about IMOLA. The 95 Williams was an excellent car, with Hill and Coulthard. But the thing not to forget is, if Senna had lived would Benetton have ever received the Renault engine? My personal opinion is he would have won in 94 and 95 and left for Ferrari for 96.
Since Schumacher wouldn't have won the championship back in 94 and 95, he would still be in F1 seeking his 6th and 7th to beat Fangio and Senna. Sounds like a great plan, too bad it didn't work .
Seriously, 96 was probably the most dominant year for Williams. Anyways, I'd actually think that he'd become bored after winning a few more championships, say 94-96 and retire. It would be interesting if after 97, he went back to Mclaren and continued to be dominant. If that were to happen, i'm sure Bernie or someone would impose some weird rules to stop him from winning. Ferrari 2005 anyone?
