Is this just some rich kid spending his uncles inheritance or is it possible the legendary name will once again dominate F1?

The kid's really behind the proverbial 8-ball by skipping karting and starting so late.

He did start late but the family name will help as well as the connections. I heard about some of his racing exploits last year, he seems to be quick but a bit wild.

Yeah so did I, seems just lack of experience. I have the Senna videos showing him when he was a small kid racing Ayrton around the go kart tracks.

As said, he used to race karts with Ayrton for fun before Ayrton died. I believe the quote was "If you think I'm good wait until you see my nephew." How much of that statement was an uncles love and how much was professional opinion will be seen.

FWIW I believe the family has spent well over $700,000 on his racing over the past two years. They certainly believe in him.

It’d be nice to see a Senna out there with a Rosberg.

Absolutely. With Nico Rosberg, him and a few others, every season could be interesting.

Thanks, but no thanks (Bianca). And I think they should give him a shot too instead of having those old farts year after year: Coulthart, Barichello, etc.

How strange that we could potentially have a grid with Senna, Rosberg, Villeneuve and Piquet again!

'Bruno says the situation had been made more difficult because Ayrton’s father, Milton da Silva, felt guilty about the accident. It was he who financed Senna’s career and was responsible for him getting into a racing car'.

This makes me sad, he helped him greatly to do something he loved to do and wanted to do. It would be no different if a parent gave a child X dollars to go abroad to college and the kid gets hit by a bus, stuff just happens, for whatever reason.

Gilles27, you left out Tomas Scheckter. LOL

    And David Donohue.

I've seen those vids as well, apparently he stopped when Ayrton died, then at 19 he decided he wanted to race again. Not too old, just a bit older than most. I think he'll be alright if he learns quickly

I agree, the young guns definitely make F1 more interesting. It was awesome watching Rosberg race in Bahrain, as well as Kimi and Alonso. I think he deserves a shot.

It's interesting that there are so many famous surnames either in F1 or nearly there. It's hard to know if a Rosberg is more talented than a Smith or is it just that a Rosberg/Senna etc has better connections? This second generation of F1 drivers have done pretty well so far - Hill, Ascari, Villeneuve, Rosberg have not exactly been flops. I think the only 2nd generation failure in F1 has been Michael Andretti and I believe he was a decent enough driver when not in F1.
So, sons/nephews of F1 drivers seem to have a good record. There appears to be no pattern when it comes to siblings though. The Rodriguez brothers were highly regarded whereas Ralf Schumacher has consistently failed to impress, when compared to his brother, or most other drivers for that matter.
