Jason Whitlock wrote this on espn.com: "All first-year NFL players should be limited to two-year contracts and an earning ceiling of $10 million. That's my solution to the insanity of giving unproven, top-five draft picks contracts with guaranteed bonuses and salaries totaling as much as $30 million. Getting a top-five pick is a detriment to your team and your team's salary cap. Teams are forced to give guys who have contributed nothing to the league more money than most of their proven veterans. It's not fair or healthy for the game. The NBA and major-league baseball don't reward their unproven players foolishly. They let the shoe companies (in the case of the NBA) take care of that. Make Reggie Bush earn his money rather than get it based on his accomplishments at USC." Makes sense to me. How ridiculous that the most unproven players earn the highest salaries.
It is ridiculous for teams to have to shelf out millions to players that are unproven in the NFL. Sure Reggie Bush was great at USC, but was has he done for the Saints? Answer: Absolutely nothing to deserve his salary. What also concerns me is that the older guys are being forced out because the teams need to make way for the signing of these young rookies. I know baseball has a range for draft pick salaries, the NFL should incorporate something like this.
There was an MSNEWS piece today that suggests the free agents are the way to go, not the draft, to build your best team in this day and age. I guess he meant that at least you let somebody else pay for a filter out the rookie seasons. Hate to say it, but I sometimes hear some Vince Young sour grapes right here in Dallas, as a matter of fact.
What? People in Dallas wanted Vince Young? Almost as crazy as the Cowboys trying to go after McFadden.
Well, I didn't mean for the Cowboys...what I meant was that some local fans (who shall remain nameless) that I know thought he might have done better where he was. But I heard we are/did try to draft a QB...
What were they going to do, trade down to #2? it was texans, who chose Mario Williams, followed by Tennessee. Sour grapes? Dallas has Romo...who I think will be better long term than Vince.
Don't think buddy, know. Romo is the class of the NFL, one of the greatest to ever play the game. If you don't believe me, look at the Tony Romo thread. BTW, Notice that it was not me that brought Tony Romo into this thread (thats a first )
