Hi there. It looks like I may be coming over with an Aussie assault on the Sepang 12 hour GT race with this 360GT. I have track info etc, but to help me choose a gear ratio, can any of you give me the top speeds you reach and which model you drive. I can make assumptions compared to 360 Modena, 355 and 550 road cars quite easily thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi again. Maybe you're confused by my first post. I don't need any race car top speeds, just your road car from a club track day or similar please. How fast do you go in a 360 Modena/355/550 road car down the fastest straight? Thanks Phil
Phil , you've got to understand the Ferrari owner culture here locally. to them , trackdays are social events. they go cruising around the track. heaven forbid if they get a stonechip. I have some friends who race professionally (works touring cars) but I don't know whether they can help you since they're all running sequential race g/boxes. cheers.
Anything would help to be honest. I can compare speeds with other info where I know Ferraris run and compare to other touring cars like your friends. I know the straights at Sepang are long, but have slow corners leading onto them, which makes it hard to guess.
After this weekend's race I can give you data on the Formula Renault. Since I also have FR data from Shanghai, it should give you a pretty good indication of how Sepang compares to Shanghai. 360C at Shanghai for sure could use a lower 5th & 6th.
I know for a fact that if u are fast out of the last corner (Petronas corner) onto the start/finish straight u should be able to do at least 210-220 before hitting the brakes 100meters b4 turn 1. This is in a 355.
Thanks again. Sounds good, as I have faster tracks here and was anxious to get longer gears if needed due to the long straights. Although the slow entry corners make terminal speeds manageable. I think I have gears in stock to suit. Any of you going to come out and watch? We also need casual pit crew/helpers/gofers etc, and anyone with local knowledge of a place to/not to eat and be entertained would be most welcome. Anyone wanting to showcase their business with signage on the car is also welcome to approach me!!
Phil: Friday practice 360GT did 2'14" 550GT did 2'7". My best time in FR was 2'12" but I was losing 3" through the technical back section. Sepang's top speed will be lower than Shanghai for sure. My FR top speed was only 220kph compared to 230kph at Shanghai two weeks ago. During Shanghai April race in cooler weather FR was doing 250kph and 360C was doing 255kph. Will let you know more later.
Phil: I shaved 2 seconds off my time this morning and qualified 9th. Moved up 1 place and finished 8th for race 1. All the times are gained through the S and double right in the back sections. Pole sitter was 1.8" faster than me. Top speed is still only about 220kph at front straight. So basically you will have to gear the 360GT shorter than you would for Shanghai.
Thanks huge Wayne, and good luck with your races. I'm currently geared fine then, over actually, but for a Ferrari and a 12 hr race, anything to make it's life easier!!
Phil: OK here is my FR data for the qualifying session Elapsed time: 2'10" flat. Front straight top speed: 217.3kph Back straight top speed: 215.3kph T1: minimum speed: 69kph T2 minimum speed: 72kph T3: full throttle T4 minimum speed: 89kph T5: lift on throttle caused speed to drop to 165kph T6: lift on throttle caused speed to drop to 159kph T7 & 8: take it as one continuous turn with minimum speed 127kph T9 minimum speed: 70kph T10: full throttle T11 minimum speed:107kph T12: lift on throttle caused speed to dropt to 159kph T13: full throttle T14 minimum speed: 94kph T15 minimum speed: 83kph Poor entry into T5 & transition to T6 can cause time. T11 and T14 can cause loads of time if entry speed is too high. T14 is especially deceptive as the exit is off camber. The really fast guys barely lift off throttle at T5 through T6. Also the same T12 through T13. I watched about 15 laps of the Japan GT race. The 550 dropped its time to about 2'4" and the 360 did about 2'12" Hey any chance seat time is available in the 360GT at Sepang?
Phil: Sepang Track is one hour from Kuala Lumpur city center. So if you want to be close to the track then Pan Pacific Hotel is only a15 minutes and is quite nice. We did not stay there, but we went there for lunch and even got a message between sessions. We stayed at the 5 star Madarin Oriental Hotel right by the Petronas Twin Towers at KL. It is also right next to a huge shopping center Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC). For drinks in the evening the bar/club street is only a five minute walk from Mandarin. Don't remember the name of the street, but tons of people. A very nice fusion style Japanese restaurant called Wasabi at the basement of Mandarin Oriental is nice. Scaldini's Italian restaurant also was very nice. For local style Chinese food Noble House was quite good. If you stay near the track then I don't know where you can go eat other than Pan Pacific hotel.
