Could someone please explain the deference between series builds of the 400.
oh my! Where to start? This list is not all of the differences, but it should get you started. 1) S1 has cable controls where S2 has solonoid controls on fuel door, trunk, and hood 2) S1 has wood console where S2 has leather covered. 3) S1 vs S2 painted hood loovers vs. silver 4) S1 vs S2 body color vs black tail 5) S1 has 15" wheels, S2 has TRX 6) S1 has standard koni rear shocks, S2 has load leveler system 7) S1 has ceramic fuses, S2 has push in 2 post type 8) S1 has standard fuse box, S2 has printed circuit board Just got back from a wine event so in this state thats all you're going to get tonight. Other (sober) Fchatters will fill in for me.
"S1 vs S2 body color vs black tail" Exactly...should be the other way around. I'm not fond of the black tail which is partially why I prefer series II cars. Some other differences: The S1 dash is the same as the 365GTC/4, 365GT4 2+2 and 400 before it. The S2 dash is updated a bit and retained this same dash throughout the 412. (Early had 4 gauges above the console and circular vents on top of the dash. S2 had "regular" forward facing vents and 3 gauges above the console) 365GT4 2+2, 400 and S1 400i steering wheels are usually silver metal spokes whereas the 400i S2 had black metal spokes. 412s got a leather cover over the spokes as well. Seats on 365GT4 2+2, 400 and S1 400is commonly have contour lines in them, sometimes in a differnet color (maroon on black seats, black on tan seats, etc.) I don't think I've seen this option on the S2 400is. 412s continued with the same sans-contour lined seats. S2s had rear fog lights integrated into the rear bumper. S1s did not.
Hey re-read my original post. I told you I was blasted when I wrote that list. At least give me some credit for even getting the topics right. So I screwed up the order; go ahead, you try it after 3 bottles of wine
