Been shopping around for a while for a 328. Yesterday, I looked at a low mileage GTS, red/saddle. Only about 2.5K miles since the last major, but that was way back in '97. Has the common hood 328 hood/prop rod crease with slight hood underframe damage as well. Body/interior very presentable, moderately bright paint. Round ding on body side with slight round depression in metal. For some reason, right rear tire shows a lot of wear. Seems to have about 50% of it's service records. A small leather tear on console. Now under care of highly reputable shop who speaks well of the car who has done annual maintenance for the last couple of years.

I'm figuring a major is a must. Body work needed for hood and ding. 1 tire, maybe 4 needed.

Anyone care to suggest an honest value for this car? Thanks much.

Where are you and where is the car? Prices are significantly different in the States vs. Australia....

my 308 had the same.. had my dealer's paintless ding guy work on it... it is completely gone. Not a big deal to fix, neither is the other dings...
Now the rest of the issues (lack of records, lack of use, etc.) are potentially problematic.

Forgot to mention model year - It's an '87. The car is in the DC metro area. Do I want the car? I *will* be buying a 328. The only question is how long will it take to find the right one for me at the right price.

High 30s? Tell me where I can buy a dozen. I've been looking seriously for a couple months since I disposed of my 87 328, and I haven't found one for anything less than 50 asking and assume these cars can maybe be bought in the high 40s. I haven't found anything remotely close to 30 and that includes a repaint with rust coming through.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

No, you just aren't negotiating properly. Hgfuy asked for an honest value for that car. High 30's is what its worth.

$50K will buy one with around 10K miles on it. Fortune Motors has one for sale now with a recent major, asking price is $51K. I've seen quite a few with 30K - 45K miles on eBay, in the Classic Car Trader, and in Hemmings with asking prices in the mid $30's to low $40's.

Here's one in CA that would be worth looking at, and the reserve is met at $31K.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=2489006392&rd=1

$35K to $38K seems to be a realistic sales price for the car as described, unless low mileage means less than 25K.

If you try to negotiate down very much in the current market, someone will buy the car out from under you.

I have flown or driven to look at 5 cars in the last two months. I have yet to find a decent car that can be bought even in the 50s.

Asking prices on decent 87s are around 50 and they are selling for that or close to it. 881/2s are selling in the mid 50s and good 89s are bringing near 60. These are selling figures, not asking prices. Of course the time of the belt service is a factor, but most sellers are still trying to get top dollar for cars that need an immediate service.

I don't think its realistic to expect a 328 in any kind of condition for even high 40s in the currrent market.

What I see, excluding e-bay, the prices are as follows for low mileage, mint condition and service done recently:
    1987: $50,000
    1988: $55,000
    1989: $60,000.

Plus or minus about $3,000.00- $5,000.00 depending on the ownership and records, and if a Ferrari dealer sells it to you. Remember, if you get it from a Ferrari dealer, they will take care of many things in the 1st 30 days. After I bought my car, I called my salesman and told him of two or three problems (within two weeks of ownership). I brought it back for service two months later and the bill was $2,750.00. Ferrari paid the bill. N/C to me. Its all about the long term relationship, and I will always buy from the dealer. I know some people have had bad experiences, not so for me.

Maybe you've just gotta wait till a good deal comes along. Sorry if that sounds simple, but it's all I got.

I got my 87 328 in spring for high 30's and the major was only 2 1/2 years old, but the mileage was around 55k. Just some minor do dads, the paint was awesome, so I'm not sure only basket cases are at those prices.

If price is driving you nuts, not that I blame you, why not consider a 348? I know it's apples to oranges, but they have their own advantages.

Here's mine! And yes, it is as good as it looks!

    Best!

You are probably looking at low to high 40's then, depending on what the miles actually are. Price seems to climb exponentially when the milage drops below 30K

You aren't looking in the right places. Call Wade at Fortune Motors. I bet that if you are willing to pay close to $50K, he will put you in an '87 GTS with 12K miles and a recent service. Do a search on Collector Car Trader and Hemmings. I saw three with less than 15K miles all around $50K asking. There are quite a few with asking prices in the high 30's to mid 40's with average miles.

A good 30K to 45K mile '86 or '87 328 can be purchased in the mid to high 30's if you are willing to wait for the right car to come along.

    Wes,

I have been looking for a red/tan car with no more than 25,000 miles, since I plan to drive the car a lot. I wouldn't mind buying a high-mileage car if the condition was good and the price appropriate, but even the 45-50K mile cars I have seen advertised are at the 50K asking range. As someone pointed out, prices do go up exponentially for low-mileage cars.

I think 328s are far more attractive than 348s.

I talked with the owner of the Ebay 328 in Yorba Linda, CA a few times and called a shop that worked on it. I was going to proceed with a PPI until I found out from the shop that it had new control arms and some other issues I cannot recall. The mechanic told me he would save me the hassle of a PPI...he knew the car and it was not one I should buy. 6 weeks ago it was 34K if I remember correctly...maybe now at 31K it is worth it....but it sounds like it is not a nice example.

I considered this car http://www.rpmsportscars.com/door21.htm and had a PPI done but ended up buying a 348 spider instead due to driving impression differences. I personally did not drive this car, but speedy308 went to RPM and looked at the car for me and as I say I had a PPI done. Did not discuss price as I went for the 348, but this inspected as a nice car with maybe a couple of chips on the front spoiler, etc.

Dunno if you've gotta have red, and I have no affiliation with RPM - just turned out to be a good car with no issues, etc. I have the PPI results still if you're interested and forwarded them to the vendor as well so no secrets.

    Cheers
    Kevin
