I have had both of my kids. 4 and 7 in the Ferrari. My 4 year old since birth and my 7 year old since he was 4. Car seats a must.

John. It's a good question. I would say simply follow your state's child seat laws and you should be OK.

    New Jersey:
Use Child Safety Seats up to age 8 or 80 pounds

Use Seat Belts age 8 to18

Children up to age 8 or 80 pounds must ride in a safety or booster seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. If there is no rear seat, the child must sit in the front seat secured by a safety or booster seat.
Children under age 8 who weigh more than 80 pounds must wear a seat belt anywhere in the vehicle.
Passengers age 8 to 18 (regardless of weight ) must wear a seat belt anywhere inside a vehicle.

    New York:
    Beginning March 27, 2005 -

Children ages 4, 5,and 6, riding in any seating position of a motor vehicle will be required to be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system.

I put my youngest in the 308. I think he was 6 months at the time.

Key is don't be stupid and pay extra attention. Nothing different then when they are in any other car.

    John,
My son turned 6 this past spring, and met the standard law here in Canada with height and weight. We drove all summer, primarily in the mornings with less traffic, and almost never made left turns (out of paranoia)(sp?). it was a fun summer. I would have to say use common sense, and of course a small little ride around the block is always a nice treat fo rthe kids.

John, @ 1yo, he can be in front-facing car seat. Put seat all the way back, and if you can turn off bags, do so. If not, just make sure seat is waaaay back. Both my children ride in our Ferraris, and they do great. Britax makes best carseats by far(nice harnesses for track for dads too). Use seat saver rubber mats, or cheap rubber floormats with poky side up, use big one on seat bottom, little one(rear) on back of seat. And no breastfeeding while driving..either U or the kids.

I got my car when my daughter was 2, and she's been riding in it ever since. It's funny, but her car seat did not fit in the back of the GT4, and therefore, she always rides in the front.

My son recently turned two, but believe it or not, he hasn't been in the car yet. His car seat is usually in my wifes car, and uses the Latch system, and I've been too lazy to disconnect it and put it in the Ferrari. But, now that this thread has come up, I've realized that it is about time to give him a ride in the ferrari. Will do ASAP.

I agree with the others though, as long as you can fit the car seat (and you don't have airbags in the front seat), you should be able to let your kid ride.

    Have fun.

(Photo is of my daughter about 1 month after getting the car).

Air bags are not safe and I suggest removing the fuse.

    John,

I probably wouldn't do it. I think it would be nice four doors and SUVs only. The impact pictures I've seen on this site have formed this opinion.

As long as you drive like a child is in your car, and the child is appropriately restrained in an approved car seat, there shouldn't be any more risk than if you were in a four door sedan. When my son was just 2-3 years old, he loved to ride, in his car seat, in my 67 Corvette convertible. That was one of his favorite activities at that time (my too!).

Fortunately this is a topic that I know a lot about, having helped, with the American Academy of Pediatrics, to get car seat restraint seat legislation passed in several of the states.

How could anyone except the most extreme pucker-butts argue that to OCCASIONALLY take the kids out in a Ferrari on a nice clear day, dry streets that are uncrowded is a bad thing?

There is minimal risk in everything, a kid having a pic to show HIS kids of himself in his dad's Ferrari will be priceless.

Of my 4 kids only 2 wanted to take a motorcycle ride, so I let them ride with me, clear Sunday, dry streets, I limited myself to 3 beers.....
