Does anyone know about this? On 550's I heard that when you engage sport mode and the shocks stiffen up, the wiring wraps its self around the shock actuator motor. Is there a service bulletin for this? If so, does the dealer charge to correct this? Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks for the reply. What's happening is that each time you engage sport mode the actuator turns and twists the the cable. In theory after multiple engage/disengagements, the cable could be damaged.

Anyone else notice this on you 550?

Absolutely false. Please do a little reading, for example do a search om "actuator" The WSM is also a good source of information about just how the actuators function.

FYI, the actuators do not and can not turn independent of the shock rod. The whole rod is turning because of the design of the bump rubber and has nothing to do with actuating the Sport switch. The rears have a different design bump rubber, they do not turn.

There's lots of information on this.

    Once again completely untrue.

Look how many places this actuator is used then think of even one instance of the actuator wires winding up except the 500 front! The answer is NONE

Then check how many of those models listed use the same bump rubber configuration as the 550 front. The answer is NONE.

Thanks to everyone for their expertise and comments.

I solved the problem (most likely temporarily) by unplugging the harness and unwinding the cable and then plugging them back in. There's a small bracket bolted to the wheel well that hols the connector that you need to remove in order to unplug the connector without damaging it. It helps greatly if you have small hands...I don't.

The issue here is that if you allow the the harness to continue twisting, eventually the cable will get damaged. I can envision the pins or the leads getting yanked out of the connector block if left unaddressed.

I understand what was said about these actuators being used everywhere, and I never ran into this before with 355s, So I'm curious about the difference of opinion.

Tom- If you do a search here for 550 shock actuators, there are several solutions that fix the problem permanently. Ranging from new rubber bushings to shim limiters that prevent the twisting.

Hint, Just wiggle the connector off the barb on that little metal tab bolted to the chassis and leave the tab bolted in place. When your finish just push the connector back on the barb.

Ferrari, unlike Mercedes, obviously doesn't require engineers/designers to serve an apprenticeship in the shop actually working on cars before setting out designing parts.

Take a look at that washer with two flats under the cup. All you have to do is keep it from turning in relation to the chassis/shock mount, but remember the whole shock/actuator must be able to tilt as the suspension moves up and down. Sark had an ingeniously simple method. It was a brilliant concept.
