A friend owns a Dino 246 GT wich wasn't driven for 8 years. He likes to know what a service this car will cost or if there's a chance to let it do by a 'normal' garage. He is living in Sweden so he has not that many contacs to other drivers.

    Heiko,

I have no idea. But you can also ask it in one of the other forums. I don't know of any 246 GT owner in the European section.

    Good luck.

Mechanicaly it should be very similar to a Fiat 130 Pininfarina Coupe (DINO) engine, quite simple mechanics for nowdays. A shop specialised in classic FIATs might be able to work on it.

    Heiko,

Let him bring the car over to Belgium, here we have the best Ferrari mechanics available!!! Every penny saved is a penny earned doesn't count for fine machinery....
A Ferrari that hasn't run for 8 years needs some serious specialist-advice. Have you contacted your local Ferrari-dealership already?

This is a friend via ICQ. I tolt him to bring it to the dealer, too. I aslo think that would be the best for the car. But to Belgium it woul be too far i think. He lives in Sweden.

    Heiko,

There are absolutely also very good Ferrari mechanics in Sweden. Just make clear to your friend that the car needs some proper maintenance.

Excusme gentelmen, I know I am going to get hammered for saying this. But the Dino it is more of a Fiat than a Ferrari, many DINOs do not even have the word Ferrari writen anywhere. The engine was designed by FIAT, the parts of the engine were manufactured at their Turin factory, then sent to Ferrari, where they were assembled together. Of course there were some mods, but 90% of the engine is FIAT, as well as most of the car.

Not only that I have found the Ferrari Official workshops are rarelly the best choice for old Ferraris, in many cases their mechanics have never touched before some of those precious old beauties. Knowing how many DINOs there are in Sweden might hlp to understand how many today´s Ferrari machanics have ever seen one ol DINO at all. In Germany that might be posible, in Belgium too, in Spain, certaily not many, in Sweden... at least in Spain and California, somebody with love for classic cars might be more adecuate.

So do not understimate mechanics that works with the old FIAT Dinos.

But I agree, that if it is posible it is better to take it to a specialist, a specialist in classic Italian Cars.

    - Julio.
