After reading several of the belt and service threads, it seems there is a varied opinion about timing of service. My question is, I had the full 30K service done after purchasing my car. That was almost four years and 5000 miles ago. Will the belt service be all I need to do in the next 6-12 months? The car runs great and everything seems to be in good condition. I know I will get many different views, but all are welcome and would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

The interval of Warrany Coupon Book service even on my ancient cars is very thourough and is to be repeated into eternity after the warranty period........it ha various "checks' at 3,000 mile intervals..

IMO ONLY the Tech Bulletin on V8 belts was formulated to reconcile with this already established period of maintenance.

Do you have the Warranty Coupon book amoung your ownership papers?

If not try to source one....oh, I have yours for the 1977....LOLOLOLOL!

I can copy it for you.....

    Dennis,

I drive my GTB ~2,000 miles/year and (sedately) track my car. Classic Coach has it on yearly oil/filter changes with fluid checks and top offs prn, and a major service (30K service) every 5 years. We do it by the (1976) book.

Thanks for your offer on the warranty book. I do have one and go by the service advisories it lists. What do you base the changes on? Time or miles. If time, I am going to guess that maintenance service is yearly and major service every 5 years. These were my thoughts when I posted, but wanted to get opinions from owners who drive alot and owners who drive on occasion and see what they are doing. Any other views are welcome and would be helpful.

Thank for your schedule. I don't know how long you have had your car, but have you done more than 1 major? And if so, what was the condition of the tensioners, cam belts and other things to worry about?

Belt service should be all you need...this is time related wheras the rest of the service is mileage related.(valve adj,re-torque heads, cam seals, etc.) We recommend changing engine oil and brake fluid once a year tho, preferably just before the car is put away for the winter..

    Dennis,

I've had my car since January, 2002. The two previous owners followed a similar schedule at Algar, driving ~1,000 miles/year. My last major (the first in my ownership) was in April, 2004. The belts and tensioners are inspected every year and pass track tech inspections. I think this is a very sane maintenance schedule. My car has had no mechanical problems in its 32 years.

Good point, Jack. I've been changing brake fluid yearly now that I track the car.
