Does it matter for resale if you had the car serviced at a reputable shop or a Ferrari dealer? Assume quality is the same.

Hokie – The clear answer is: It depends :)

I live in Switzerland – a rather small country – but with 10 or 11 official Ferrari dealers. If here a Ferrari is not maintained by an official dealer, this might have a negative impact on resale or may even be a deal breaker (for newer Ferraris, for older Ferraris there are a few shops with a quite high reputation).

In other regions this may be different: If there are only a few official Ferrari dealers but some very reputable independent shops, an independent may be even better rated than an official dealer.

Sure this is a different story for vintage cars. There are some really highly reputable shops. Since you are asking this question in the 456/550/575 forum, I would say a car that is serviced by an official dealer should have an advantage in resale. Others may have different experiences and opinions but here in Switzerland I would never buy a 456/550/575 that has been serviced by an independent shop.

But anyway: I would not think about resale but about what is the most appropriate solution for you.

    Hope this helps.

There is a definite advantage in resale of having a dealership do the work. HOWEVER, if you have the car for a while and have found a reputable independent mechanic, the amount of money you will save in maintenance and repair costs will more than outweigh the premium you will get when you sell because the car was maintained at the dealership.

Thank you for the insight. Very valid points of view for both .
