I was looking at a 458 and its available service records and one of the items stated “replace belly panel”. Just below that it stated replace customer supplied carbon rear diffuser. My question is, are these two different parts? Is a “belly panel” an official Ferrari part?

When I looked at this car originally, it had just arrived at the dealer, prior to detailing etc. I noticed there was an inordinate amount (my opinion) of scraping on the underside of the front nose. All across the front was very rough to the touch. Like a lot of repeated curb or 1 drastic scraping. So when i saw this service record it made me think this car may have had an incident that bottomed the car out or something. The repairs were made 60days prior to him trading in the car. If you had any idea of trading your car in, why would one install an expensive CF diffuser, unless the orig was damaged and you wanted it to look like an upgrade?

Also, since I am a first timer, are scraped up noses just a normal blemish to expect? The few I have seen so far, the damage varies. Some with none, and this one on the other extreme. Salesman said why worry about it, you cant see it? Thats not how I think...

Was there also a dealer supplied part on the bill charging for a belly panel? Were there labor charges for both a belly panel and rear diffuser?

No it was done at the time of annual service this last august. It just stated replace belly panel and install customer supplied cf diffuser. The record that was supplied to me show no charges to customer.

I'll provide my opinion - Scrapes happen on these cars as they do with Vettes or Lambo or McLaren. Being the type of person that I am, I avoid situations which put my in a position to scrape. I have a front lifter on my 458 which I like. When I bought my 430 and my 458, I inspected for repeated scraping. The 430 had one minor scrape and the 458 had none. In my very biased view, I don't want a car that has been repeatedly scraped because the bumpers are fiberglass and bottoming a car repeatedly can crack and damage the mounting tabs on the bumpers. The only way to see it is to take the bumper off. Look at the Bradan thread regarding the Grigio Silverstone 430 front bumper they painted. They had to fix a mounting tab because it was damaged due to scraping (my opinion). True, you may not be able to see it, but it doesn't mean its good. In the end, only you can determine what you are willing to accept.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have passed on this car. I did some research and found the belly pan to be part of the protective covering of the under carriage (as it sounds). With the damage to the front, replacing the belly pan, and installing a new CF diffuser, it seemed there was an untold story. Along with trying to get answers from the dealer was like pulling teeth, it was not a pride of ownership car, being pretty dirty inside and out when I first viewed it.
